2024-25 Rankings

Looking at what our AP ranking may be on Monday after our biggest W of the year @ #20 Marquette:

#1 Auburn: L @ #22 Texas A&M, L vs. #7 Alabama
#2 Duke: W vs. Wake Forest, W @ UNC
#3 Houston: W vs. Kansas, W @ Baylor
#4 Tennessee: L @ Ole Miss, W vs. South Carolina
#5 Florida: W @ #7 Alabama, W vs. Ole Miss
#6 St. John's: W @ #20 Marquette
#7 Alabama: L vs. #5 Florida, W @ #1 Auburn
#8 Michigan St: W @ Iowa, TBD vs. #17 Michigan

First, I highly doubt #8 Michigan St will pass us regardless of the result on Sunday, so all relevant results are complete. Going over the rest:

#1 Auburn: with two Ls we could pass them, but frankly we don't deserve to as their resume is still much better than ours (15 Q1 Ws). Recency bias is a thing with the AP, but I'm guessing they won't rank us above them.
#4 Tennessee: I'm pretty sure we'll pass them.
#7 Alabama: they could pass us... tough call. I'm guessing they will since @ #1 Auburn is the best W possible and it's more recent than the L vs. #5, but this is nearly a coin flip IMO.

Will be an interesting update, personally I don't think it's clear where our placement will be, especially given how surprising our #6 ranking was this week. I'm guessing we'll stay at #6, passing #4 Tennessee with #7 Alabama passing us. That said, #5 would be my next guess (#7 doesn't pass us) and we could be as high as #4 (if we also pass #1).

I think we’ll stay right at 6 and be a 2 seed in every bracket projection here on out.
Palm still has us as a 3 seed in the East as of 10:18AM EST. I also think he's probably the worst mainstream bracketologist out there.

I honestly would probably prefer this result vs. #2 in any of those brackets but not in the East.

Yeah I saw. A 9-loss Texas A&M team is not ahead of us. So he’s wrong.

Only if Mich St loses to Mich today. Should be a fun one at 12.

You think Michigan St passes us in the AP with a W today? It's definitely possible but I still think pretty unlikely. Iowa is pretty bad (.500) and beating #17 Michigan at home wouldn't be as impressive as beating #20 Marquette on the road. The X factor here may be that Michigan St won the Big Ten outright earlier this week, so that could influence some voters as it did for us last week, but we're 14 points ahead which I think would be enough to stay ahead of them.

Regardless, definitely rooting against Michigan St today for a lot of reasons, including seeding which is more important than how the AP votes.

Us and Sparty are both on the 2-line, so whatever they do today doesn’t really effect us.

Eh I think we'll be a 2 seed but it's still very possible we'll be a 3 if tournament results don't go well for us. Bracket Matrix as of yesterday has Michigan St as the third 2 seed and us as the first 3 seed.

At the very least it certainly wouldn't hurt to root against Michigan St today for anyone who wants the best odds at getting a 2 seed.

Oh I'm conflating. I think they're ahead of us seeding-wise but we should be ahead AP-wise.

No one is going to respect STJ losing to Marq or X in the semi's, let alone to Prov or Butler.

Mich St. destroying Michigan by 22 at the half.

Win Big east - we are 2 seed but crazier things happened we would have gone undefeated from the committee first announcement …still don’t think so but there is a chance at 1

Make big east final / lose - 2 seed
Make big east semis / lose - last 2 seed but probably a 3
Lose big east quarters - 3 seed
I really really don’t want to lose in the quarterfinals. I really dont want to lose at all.
