2024-25 Rankings

Alabama fans must be pissed.

They blow out a Top 25 team in Mississippi State by 38 points and lose on the road on a buzzer beater to a top five team, but they drop in the rankings? If that happened to us, we'd be calling for a FBI investigation on the AP voters/NCAA on bias against Catholics and the Big East, lol.

And, now they get to play #3 Florida and @ #1 Auburn.

Don't think this should have ramifications on them being a two seed but who knows.

I do think they are very vulnerable. They take so many 3's and if they aint fallin......

Agreed. For that top six, my preference in playing is probably (in order of want to not) is: Alabama, Duke, Tennessee, Florida, Houston, Auburn.

Alabama and Michigan State are both higher seeds than us right now, which you know because you pay attention.

I'd even say Alabama a "much higher" seed than us, in terms of the catch-up between the resumes are insurmountable. Just a mindboggling vote but like you said, I'll take it. lol

The points difference between #6-8 is almost nothing, we're 3 points ahead of #7 Alabama and 14 points ahead of #8 Michigan St, but then 232 points ahead of #9 Texas Tech.

Still very surprised, but I'm guessing some pollsters who underrated our ranking last week saw the BE Champions headlines and bumped us up a few extra slots. Something similar happened about a month ago when we went into 1st place in the BE and had a huge AP jump. Not everyone is paying attention and it takes just takes a few pollsters doing this to be the difference between #6-8.

Regardless I'll happily take it. Thinking if we can beat #20 Marquette on the road we'll be top 5 next week heading into the BET (could you imagine the TV ratings??), and likely no worse than top 10 if we lose.

Yeah. AP votes are different than tournament seeding, which you know. There's no world where if the season ended today we'd be ranked higher than Alabama or MSU. But it's great PR and fun for us.

I think the seeding tiers are as follows:

1 seeds: Auburn, Duke, Houston, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida.
2 seeds: 2 teams of the above six plus MSU and St. John's.
3 seeds: Iowa State, Wisconsin, Texas Tech, Texas A&M
4 seeds: Michigan, Arizona, Kentucky, Purdue (Maryland, Clemson, others lurking)

Big gap after 1-6. I do think there's also a bigger gap emerging after 1-12, which is why I'm pretty bullish we won't drop to a 4 seed. I have a hard time envisioning Michigan, Arizona, Kentucky, Purdue catching us.

Good post. I would just say we SHOULD be ranked higher than michigan state though. Polls and Seedings.

Michigan State is 10-3 in Quad 1 games and playing some of the best ball in the country. They deserve to be ahead of us when it comes to seeding imo

Its over inflated many of those quad 1 games my opinion. NET is faulty. Some of those wins are not as good as what the NET says. But based on NET if that is what they follow I get that. But it shouldn't.
