2024-25 Rankings

Kansas has lost four of their last seven since January 25th (see games below) and is 17-8 overall and just 8 and 6 for a three way tie for fifth place in their conference. They played just one Big East opponent, Creighton, and were beaten by 13 points. They recently lost to Kansas State by 8 points, who we blew out by 17.

With all of this, Joe Lunardi has Kansas as a four seed and SJU as a five seed in his Midwest Region of his Bracketology. They just lost their last game to Utah by 7 points. SJU is 22-4, has a big lead in their conference with a 13 and 2 conference record, lost only one single game in 2025 and their total margin of defeat in their four losses this season totals just seven points.

How can this logic-defying assessment by Lunardi be? The simple answer is that Joe Lunardi and ESPN are anti-Big East. There is no reasonable metric that any of this makes sense any other way. We can only hope that this anti-Big East bias does not poison the actual selection committee and punish SJU.

this is no surprise at all.
The Blue Bloods have been treated favourably forever. Case in point many a year people questioned how Cuse even got an invite but once in they didn’t disappoint and they advanced. We have done squat in over 20 years and when we got in we went home after 1 game. The rest of the country doesn’t remember that DJ Kennedy went down and could not play against the Zags, they don’t remember Obeka was caught smoking pot and was suspended, but we all clearly do. It is forever etched in our collective memories. We just need to continue to win, any way possible. Pretty, ugly, it does not matter, just win irrespective of our seed to show our BE record was no fluke.
I refuse to be bothered as to our current proposed seeding or that of any other team.

No difference between 4 & 5 seed, they play each other in 2nd game anyway.

Expanding on Kansas discussion above, Gonzaga is way too high too.
Per NCAA net this am.

Net. ……. Q1. Q2
10. Gonzaga. 2-5. 3-2
15. Kansas. 5-7. 5-1
22. St. John’s. 3-4. 7-0

So many more 5s get beat by 12s than 13s by 4s

I think we stay where we were.
I agree. In looking at what teams around us did, most behind us lost at least once this past week. I could see us moving up one spot assuming Purdue drops behind us, but wouldn’t be surprised if Iowa State moves ahead of us, keeping us right where we are.
