2024-25 Rankings

I absolutely believe that they would need to be at least a 3 and maybe even a 2 to get that advantage. Today means nothing as it costs them nothing and actually helps generate discussion and coverage. But, I have a better chance of dating a Victoria's Secret model then the committee allowing us as a 4 seed to play 1 seeded Duke in Newark.

This is my larger point.

I use the Syracuse 2003 run as an example. They won the BE regular season with Pitt, Pitt won BE Tourney and got a 2 seed. Cuse was a 3 in the East. The East Regional was in Albany. And sure enough they matched up with no. 1 seed Oklahoma in the Final. I mean that building was ALL ORANGE. It was so unfair to Oklahoma.

I guess it all comes down to how much you think a No. 1 seed is owed. They presumably already get the easiest first round game as a reward. Is the No. 1 team owed the easiest path all the way to FF?

I believe that the top 4 seeds in each region are the protected seeds. That is, they are protected from potentially hostile crowds in the first 2 rounds. I do not think that the protection is carried over to the regionals. But, there are situations where the blue blood types almost certainly get additional consideration. They will certainly screw us or Marquette or Creighton. But, they are not doing that to Duke.

Correct since they introduced the POD system in 2002 they generally protect the top 4 seeds in each region.

Look they protected UCONN last year but again they were a 1 seed. Not just any 1 but the overall number 1. Put them in Brooklyn and then Boston. Never had to get on a bus.

Again I still think if SJU is going to get the Providence/Newark double they will need to move up to the 3 line if not higher.

True. But man I did feel for Kelvin Sampson and Oklahoma n 2003. I mean it was basically a Road game for them.

I also remember 2004. Wisconsin was a 6 seed and they were put in Milwaukee. So they gave them basically a home game in the first two rounds including against 3 seed Pittsburgh. I remember Jay Bilas was just incredulous. He called it a joke. Why would would you allow a 6 seed a clear home court advantage over a 6 seed.

Jay Wright made a fair point a SJU/Duke Regional Semi in Newark would be electric. Also it would not be overwhelmingly SJU fans. Duke fans travel (see all of those Duke NCAA games in the Meadowlands in the 80s and 90s) and evidently per Jay Wright New Jersey has the largest population of Duke grads of any of the 50 states.

- Kstate stays in top 75 (73) after loss
- Virginia only loved to 104 with win

- creighton at 32 today probably means a win vs us would move them to quad 1, and a loss vs us would keep them quad 2. Still a good chance with their remaining schedule to finish in top 30.
