2024-25 Rankings

I'd keep expectations in line for where we're ranked tomorrow.

CBS's Top 25 and 1 had us at #26 last week (same as where the AP put us), and as of this morning they have us at #24. Keep in mind, although teams like Gonzaga will move out of the rankings, there were some major upsets by unranked teams that could pass us. Just for example, yesterday 15-3 Vanderbilt upset #6 Tennessee. 13-4 West Virginia upset #2 Iowa St. Not saying they'll pass us, but it's possible. Personally I'd be pretty happy to see any number by our team (and I definitely think there will be), but I doubt it'll be as high as some are expecting.

We will be ranked tomorrow. If we are still ranked after the Feb 23 UCONN game then we will be sitting pretty. From 2/4-2/23 we play UCONN twice, Marquette, Villanova and Creighton. Most brutal part of schedule. If we survive that gauntlet and are ranked we should be looking at a nice seed for the dance.

If you look at KPI, we beat the #100 and #224 team. We should be ranked but barely. Xavier is the type of game that will have us move up. Georgetown and Providence games won’t help us budge, we just have to win though

Yep, exactly. Most AP voters yesterday weren't paying full attention to our game at a terrible Seton Hall team, and the Georgetown win also wouldn't move the needle much. Have to look at it from the national perspective. This week we were really relying on the rest of the AP Top 25 working out favorably for us, and it has, but only slightly. I think we'll be ranked but I'm guessing around #23-24, also depends on how today's results go. If any AP ballots are posted tonight I'll link them.

Will take the 25th spot. Hopefully creates some more excitement heading into the Xavier and if we keep winning Providence as well. One game at at time though.

#19 Illinois loses at #12 Michigan St. Certainly not a bad loss but I'm guessing they'll drop to the low to mid 20's, and we could potentially pass them.

Good point but Indiana isn't that good (#61 NET) and Illinois has lost 2/3 now. I agree that I wouldn't expect to pass them, but there's a chance.
The reason why we are in so many must win games is because the Big East is viewed as weaker this year and the teams in these power conferences have a much higher number of quad 1 games to pad their resumes with signatures wins. Even if they have a bad loss they’ll have 8 more quad 1 games to make up for it , we don’t have that luxury. We have to keep winning.

Stop with the must-win nonsense. We’re 16-3 (7-1) and in sole possession of first place. We’re about to be ranked tomorrow. Stop obsessing over Quad 1 this and Quad 2 that. The idea that we’re even close to the bubble at this point in time is comical. Enjoy the season and give the “what if we lose X game” a rest.

I always root for the Big East to be as strong as possible, but this year's down Big East may work in our favor. We weren't ranked before starting Big East play, but tomorrow we'll be ranked (despite beating 0 ranked teams) and in first place. It could've worked out badly for us, but thus far it hasn't.

No must wins anymore, but I'm at the point with this team, that I expect (not hoping) to win our next 3 (vs X, @DC, vs PC).
Rick is creating a monster. The monster is going to chew everyone up and spit them out.

Think we'll take 3/5 from Marq/Crighton/Uconn, and probably one unexpected loss

16-4, that gets us to 25-6 (20 conference games an 31 total?)
That's pretty impressive.
Thats basically my expectations as well. I just think there's a difference between saying "there's no must wins" because our resume is already good enough vs. "there's no must wins" because our team is really good. I'm only in the latter.
