2024-25 Rankings

A second AP ballot is in:

He has us at #19 today, while last week he had us unranked. The first AP ballot was just a one spot increase week to week, so this 7 spot jump is pretty surprising, but hey I'll take it.
This was the basis for my #18-20 prediction. Voters will start giving respect tor the first place team in the Big East. Let’s see if his peers follow suit.

It is usually the case that teams ahead of us need to lose for us to move up significantly. There were lots of losses by top 25 teams this week, including #25 Baylor, #23 Georgia (twice, but to really good teams), #22 Utah State, #21 Ole Miss, #16 Gonzaga (twice to unranked teams). I could see #19, but #20-22 sounds about right for the Johnnies.

21/22 remains my prediction. A lot of people only focus on metrics here, but public perception matters. We’re 16-3 (7-1) and in sole possession of first place in the Big East with Rick Pitino as coach.

This is true, and with all due respect, our two losses (to two really good teams), deserve the same recognition.

Baylor and Georgia have been given the benefit of doubt when it came down to them vs us being ranked, because they beat us head-to head.

That was a long time ago, and here we are...

Despite us losing to two top 25 teams in a matter of days, by the slightest of margins, we are the better team.

It is time for the voters to put some respect on our name.

Ken, I don't think they will recognize us much for a while. I hope I'm wrong...
I understand the mindset as we have been mired in you know what for decades. At the very least, we are relevant again. We don’t sniff events like the Players Era NIL Tourney without the current staff. Now it’s time to sit back and enjoy the results. We are not perfect but at least the wins are accumulating. New regime bringing new hope.

We came in 20! As I said, perception of who we are, who are coach is, and what conference we play in matters just as much if not more than some of the metrics people tend to only focus on.
