2024-25 Rankings

Xavier is still a big game. Really want that sweep.

With this week, we've now been ranked three times this year.

The 2014-2015 team was ranked for five weeks between December 8 through January 5th.

The 2010-2011 team was ranked for the final three weeks of the season.

The 2000-2001 team was ranked for the first four weeks of the season.

The 1999-2000 team was ranked for five weeks in the season, in the beginning and to conclude the season.

The 1998-1999 team was ranked for all but the first week of the season.

Four of the five teams made the tournament. Question for the season will be -- who will this team most closely resemble? The Elite 8 one, the sub-500 one (even this board's most pessimistic would say no to that) or the one-and-dones?

Hard to believe that they are only Quad 2. Why it was just last year that the vaunted Selection Committee was in love with the great Mountain West Conference. I mean New Mexico is top of the Standings!

I kid because I think our focus should be on winning games. Win and it takes care of itself. Hard to not get a bid if we win as many games as possible. Trust no one.
Its hard to get a Quad 1 game at home. You have to be in the NET top 30. New Mexico is 59. They have some really good wins but a couple of bad losses too. ( 1-1 Q1; 6-2 Q2; 2-2 Q3)

Right now, even UConn (NET 32) is a Q2 game at home.

A reminder of the quadrants:

Q1 (H: 1-30) (N: 1-50) (A: 1-75)
Q2 (H: 31-75) (N: 51-100) (A: 76-135)
Q3 (H: 76-160) (N: 101-200) (A: 136-240)
Q4 (H: 161-364) (N: 201-364) (A: 241-364)

Our record is: 1-3 Q1; 3-0 Q2; 7-0 Q3; 5-0 Q4

It's crazy that the 1999-2000 team...Big East Champs, won @ Duke, swept UConn in 3 games, 25-8 overall record, 12-4 conference record and a number 2 seed in the tournament was only ranked for 5 weeks.

Technically we have 2 Quad 1 wins. Providence was Q1 at the time we beat them on the road. A flaw in the NET process to eliminate that from the equation. When a team beats the #1 team in the country, that remains regardless if said top team drops in the rankings. Just me venting about the NET.

Last week 23/62 AP voters ranked us.
This week 57/62 AP voters ranked us.

That's why we moved up so much, more than double voted for us even though we didn't beat a great team this week. I know the AP voters get a lot of hate, sometimes deserved, but credit to them this week since they absolutely took notice that we're now in first place. Sky is the limit with Pitino as coach.
