2024-25 Rankings

my current projection for the next couple weeks:
go 2-0 this week.... we are #23
Next week: beat X... #21
Following - beat GTown and Prov : #16

Feb 4 showdown... if Marq manages to remain unbeaten (which will include a win over UConn)... they might be top3 (given the current top6 lose)

Beat MARQ .... and THEN SMACK UConn AT UCONN.... say hi to your top 10 Johnnies....

I haven't even had a beer yet today!!! lol
We need to give Bucketshardy his acid test.

So you're saying if we go 16-5 in conference we won't get in? Man...I don't know if I can agree with that.
Much will depend on what Creighton does, considering we are probably in are a 3-bid league again. So if we go 0-4 with Marquette /UConn and Creighton goes 2-2 with them - or even 1-3 - they will likely get the bid over us. As I said, if we go 1-3 against Marquette /UConn, then it's much less clear. The point is, we need at least one win against Marquette /UConn.

I think we're probably in if we go 15-5 while being 0-4 against Marq/UConn, but it would likely be as a play-in or 10 seed. I don't even know why this is a doomsday or crazy person take. The Big East doesn't have the respect from the committee, metrics, or quality basketball on their side compared to the SEC, Big 12, or Big 10.

Could be. I am just basing my opinion on what the Selection Committee did last year. We finished with a NET of 32, and yet we didn't make the field of 68. Why? Because we had a poor OOC record and got swept by UConn and Marquette in conference play. Those were are only chances at a statement win last year - and here we are again in that same position, albeit with a better record (in a weakened league).

I completely agree with you.

As of today the Big East has 4 projected bids in most brackets, including the big ones such as ESPN, Fox, and CBS. Marquette, UConn, and St. John's are safely in, while Creighton is on the right side of the bubble.

If today were Selection Sunday would I feel safe about Creighton? Oh course not, but them playing well recently has at least shifted the media narrative to 4 Big East teams rather than 3. I'm sure the conference is very happy with how conference play has gone thus far.

It is two months to Selection Sunday, we are a little more then half way through the regular season but only about a third through conference play including the BET. I love this topic as much as anyone (definitely guilty of speculating). That said our situation will change every game we play. Hoping to have a great second half of the season.

In the current AP and coach's poll, we are just outside the top 25, solidly with the most votes of those missing.

Clearly we are #26.

Rankings don't mean much at this point but they also mean everything. Climb the ladder and the interest and ticket sales for home games will go over the top.

MSG at capacity for an SJU game makes it the mecca of college basketball as an arena.

We are on the cusp. I can't stop to be critical of players or coaching decisions. This is something we've all waited for a very long time.

Break the glass ceiling of rankings and it all can unfold.

Already one hell of a season and we have about half to go. Great stuff, and all the credit goes to Rick Pitino.

Absolutely a full garden for the Johnnie’s is awesome!!!

Agree here.... Rankings draw interest and drives sales.... the Casual understands a Number in front of your name means something....

1 win from a Number... 2 wins from Potential Top 20.

The path is there to enter that Marquette game top 15. If we do, Guarantee we won't have trouble reaching 16k for a Tuesday night.

As you say the rankings are important from a public perception standpoint. They equal increased media attention, which assists ticket sales, totally agree. And the bigger the crowds at MSG the greater the home court advantage, which is not easily a big advantage at MSG.

So, more fun, as you rightly infer, and also can actually help with other goals.
