The 2024-25 conference play/NCAA Tournament primer for all 31 men's basketball conferences
The Carpal Tunnel Tournament

Cool conference primer for every single conference based on stats and analytics.
I just saw a stat that teams in the SEC and the Big 10 make up half of the Top 50 in the NET. The bulk of the At-Large bids are going to those two conferences. We better finish Top 3 in the Big East or win The Big East Tournament or we’re cooked!! Big East might only be a two bid league if they don’t watch out.
The Big East controls its own destiny, in order to get at least 4 bids (with mostly strong seeds) we just need the top 4 teams to: 1. separate themselves from the rest of the conference and 2. not have had terrible OOC (like 4th place Seton Hall last year).
So far we have Marquette, Georgetown, UConn, and St. John's in the top 4 spots. All of them had at least solid OOC performances, and they're a combined 12-1. The one loss was to another potential bubble team (Creighton).
The Big East did have a pretty mediocre OOC, but thus far conference play has been beneficial.

Georgetown is now 75th on the NET this morning among all BIG EAST teams . Based on who they have remaining, they're most certainly dead in the water. Marquette (9) and yukon (13) are in for certain but 3rd place St. John's (38) has put themselves in a pickle. Every other school is 60 and below, making it difficult to accumulate points defeating the bottom 8. Those Marquette and yukon games are now imperative.

''yukon, Marquette and St. John's were the only 3 teams with good OOCs?'' Heck no, don't count us. Marquette has played 6 Quad 1 opponents, yukon has played 5. Xavier, Creighton and Butler have all played 6 Quad 1 opponents, while DePaul as played 4. We have played 3, more than only Providence and Georgetown. There's a reason we're a projected 9 seed on most brackets.Yeah I mean UConn, Marquette and St. John's were the only 3 teams with good OOCs. Georgetown may not be the most ideal option for a 4th spot, their schedule was pretty weak, but unlike most BE teams they didn't have any bad losses. We got into the Tournament with a NET around #72 in Mullin's final year (a NET that high doesn't automatically disqualify teams and they can still improve it), so Georgetown definitely can get in if they get some big wins in conference and finish top 4. Not saying it's likely, but as of now they remain a contender.

I said good, not great. Top 40ish NET I'd consider "good enough". We had the third best OOC in the conference.
I'm not defending the conference at all, it did poorly OOC by major conference standards, I'm just saying what needs to happen for us to get at least 3-4 teams in. Part of that is St. John's needs to be top 3-4 in conference, and so far that has happened.
Have to admit I am feeling pretty negatively today as for the most part the teams we beat are looking worse than I thought.I said good, not great. Top 40ish NET I'd consider "good enough". We had the third best OOC in the conference.

Providence was killed at home by Marquette. DePaul who we beat by 29 is down close to 40 at Nova. New Mexico needed a last section shot to beat a struggling Nevada team last night at home.
Georgia is hanging in at Ole Miss which would be a nice win if they could get it.
Anyway we can’t afford not to play our absolute best going forward or we will be in the same spot as last year.
Beating Xavier at their great environment will positively influence my opinion of this team rather than beating a team w seven losses in a row.Yeah, the board has understandably been negative the last few days and recent results from our previous opponents haven't helped. Beat Butler today, especially by a large margin, and the optimism will (mostly) return.

I would consider their 20 pt loss to Notre Dame to be a stain on their resume... but with ND being around 100 in the NET... guess that falls into Quad 2 territory... They have no OOC victories of note, same as us, however they do own a better Win than us by blowing out Creighton at home.Yeah I mean UConn, Marquette and St. John's were the only 3 teams with good OOCs.
