2023-24 Roster

Here’s my best shot at covering all our new pieces. Graphics intern has been working overtime.

Great job Mase, really enjoyed it. I heard a “dude” a “Pitino is cooking” it’s all good. Can’t wait to hear the next episode AFTER we sign Dingle and a Big. 🤞

Main Rotation:

Guards - Dingle, Alleyne, Jenkins, Davis
Wings - Luis, Taylor Jr., Slazinski
Post - Soriano, TBD

Dunlap, Conway, Ayo, Traore not many minutes.

Projected Starting Lineup (fluid)
G - Jenkins
G - Dingle
G - Alleyne
F - Slazinksi
C - Soriano

Looks like a tournament team to me.

I think Dingle moves Jenkins to the bench as the 6th man. Jenkins can play both guard spots, so he’ll get plenty of minutes . Still have 1 spot left I’m assuming it’ll be a backup center.

G Dingle/Jenkins
G Alleyne/Jenkins/Davis
W Luis/Conway/Dunlap
W Taylor/Slazinski/Ayo
C Soriano/TBD/Traore

Don't see it. He knows the system and will be our starting PG.

Last year vs this year

Coach-Even……😏
HOF coach vs Bernie from Weekend at Bernie’s.
Totally different rosters so not sure how you quantify the major upgrade in wins but is major upgrade.
Huge upgrade this year

Center
Soriano is basically a grown man and theoretically will be surrounded by “shooters” this year plus the upgrade in coaching he should be better.
Needs to gather and go up strong underneath. Rushed things too much.
Slight edge this year

Power Forward
I would have been interested in seeing Jones with Pitino. Wasn’t as big a Stanley fan as some.
Unless get a starter at 4 with last ship will either be Iona kid or going to go small.
Honestly at this point last year had more talent at this position and Jones was a solid rebounder. But because Jones was such a mess last year…
Slight edge this year.

Small forward
Luis, Taylor, Alleyne, Dunlap and possibly Conway. Lot of talent there, maybe too much.

Putting Wusu here above Mase jr objections.
Had skills and won DePaul game by himself.
He frustrated me more than Jones and might have been worst layup shooter in history. His shot getting blocked record will last longer than CY Young Wins record.
Big edge this year

Shooting guard
I would have loved Storr to be here for 4 years and play for Pitino. I get you root for the uniform and all but that was the one defection that bothered me. Think he will be a really good player.
Dingle looks like the player that can get us to the tournament. I do think you have to take the going up in competition as a factor but I am giving in to the hilights. Stats and efficiency are off the charts except for turnover %.
Big edge this year

Point guard
Posh was great as a Freshman and really good as a Sophomore. Whatever the reason he was awful this past year and worst of all his D suffered.
Of all the incoming kids the one worried most about adjusting to the higher level of comp is Jenkins. He is not really a point guard though truthfully either was Posh. Not really a pure shooter though better than Posh, but who isn’t. I also would bet the ranch that Posh terrorizes him the first game we play. But even with that….
Slight edge this year

Bench
Just removing Curbelo from situation is a huge edge for this year.
I believe Alleyne will be super sub and will have good depth, maybe too much. Hope Dunlap gets some run.
Huge edge this year

Prediction
Most on here probably won’t like this but most on here wish they were the woman in the restaurant with Rick.
See us getting in as 8 seed and winning a game.
As of now 4 spot and acclimating 11 kids most of whom will be playing against better comp would be the issues IMO

During his introductory presser, Pitino talked endlessly about culture change. Well, he has been true to his word, while also increasing the talent level.

Dingle’s commitment now makes 10 new players, with one more spot available. Pitino has accomplished this in less than two months on the job.

In retrospect, the concerns and consternations about how Pitino lost his fastball or should not have gone scorched earth and instead gone about it in a smaller dose, while keeping some of the players from last season’s team were unfounded.

Pitino has made roster building look easier than in a video game, while patience in our hall of fame coach was the path for us fans to take.

Yes, I was biased throughout. I was 100 percent in on Pitino and had faith he would deliver.

Now, all the begrudging, belittling, besmirching, bickering, and b*tching can be put aside for a little while, at least.

Remember, We Are St. John’s…and We are back baby!!!!

Dingle is going to have the ball in his hands when he’s on the court. They are both combo guards and Dingle is the better player. Alleyne is a more natural fit alongside either one as a shooter who plays off ball. There are too many good big wing players on this team to start 3 guards imo.

Agree but not so sure that it won’t be Alleyne as 6th man.

The “buzz” around this roster for next season is off the charts. I compare it to the Felipe/Zendon hype which never really went where we wanted. Sure we had the Artest/Bootsy/Barkley era but not sure the preseason buzz. I think we knew that team was good but we probably were a little spoiled by the CM era.

I am now totally in and am super curious who that final piece will be on the roster. So many good choices, so little information (probably a good thing). Damn, Pitino and his staff has me dreaming about college hoops in May. That in and of itself tells you what they are doing. Anything is possible. You can feel the energy.

I think Rick brings a high quality 4/5 guy with the last scholarship. That completes the circle in my opinion. We get Ware or Zuby and I think we are a ranked team by the end of the season and probably a 6 seed.

A lot of excitement about improved perimeter shooting of our roster but THIS is what gets me most excited.

Fouls drawn/40 min

- Dingle 5.4 (106th) 86% FT
- Luis 5.3 (126) 79% FT
- Soriano 5.1 (164) 73% FT
- Taylor 5.1 (170) 80% FT

2nd best on sju last year
- Posh 3.4

This is how you avoid scoring droughts and most importantly - close out games.

I have talked myself into Luis/Taylor starting front court, but yes need backup 4/5. No doubt will grab someone along line if not one of those 2. Personally like upside more with Zuby.
