2023-24 Roster

Moose made great point re having a lot of one year guys, on one hand adds experience & on other makes 24 recruiting challenging. Staff knows that obviously and are working very hard on 24 prospects .
Just get “St. John’s” called on selection Sunday whether it is a team of all 5th year seniors, or a fab five freshman class.

Get the positive publicity that comes with it and bringing in top recruits becomes easier. Attention span is short, and the latest news is all that matters.

If you are going to call it "like it is" call everything.

There was a least a modicum of an offensive set up with Champagnie here in 2021-22. This past season there was absolutely nothing that resembled anything more than playground ball most of the time. You are correct that every stat of Posh's was lower or higher (both meaning worse) than in previous years. However, as a team every stat except for FG% (.4% increase) and 3p% (.4% increase) were also worse. And if you take Storr out of the equation the 3p% would have dropped too.

Soriano grew and should be congratulated, but when I see only one person growing, not a team, I chalk that up to personal maturity and vision...as well as with JC getting drafted, led to more ball touches for Soriano. On the flip side, in this free-for-all minded offense, MA brought in more guards, which despite increased minutes meant less touches for Posh and which encouraged poor shot selection.

This whole team was poorly coached and disorganized. Poor management will carry over not only into games, but practices and daily life as well. So while you rail about Posh's stats last season and pshaw his accolades from two years ago, you do so while simultaneously ignoring the fact that his leadership failed him, doing a piss-poor job of leading him and fostering his growth and success. Saying he's not half the player he was two years ago, rather that is absolutely true or not, is not only a one-sided, cynical point of view, it fails to figure in the rest of circumstances surrounding this team.

Just calling it like I see it. I think Posh would flourish under RP, as would Wusu, Jones and Storr in my opinion...which of course we know what opinions are worth. I'd like to see them on this roster.
Personal maturity and vision is probably close to what Pitino had in mind when everyone was asked to leave. Only Posh had that and he just didn't play well.

This seems to be a very prudent opinion. I'm not sure what Shanley witnessed either in practice or on the court but it seems he was very unsatisfied with pretty much everything around the program. To what extent this has anything to do with the buyout issue remains to be seen as well. I'm not sure what Cragg's or Van's POV was at all either.
Vans POV was clearly bad in every player. Rick kept him, who do you think was giving him reports on their character and head spaces?

See Conway as more of SF so need at least 2 more guards. College basketball more of a guards game with many teams starting 3 even 4 guards.
Bama, I can’t agree more about the “guards game” and Pitino system has always been heavily dependent on guards. I would expect at least two more.

He's listed as a 6'5 guard, but more importantly than his measurables I don't think we should be relying on him for major minutes. We need some impact wing players to complement our backcourt and Joel up front.

I just think it is presumptuous to believe that everyone was "asked to leave". Rick met with the players - clearly what he liked Soriano as a big with potential and heard good things about him, and Drissa in terms of what he was told about character. Both of those guys also likely expressed a strong desire to return.

So far as the rest, it's a better possibility that he spoke to them directly, perhaps in terms of what he expects, what he won't tolerate, and maybe even what he heard about goings on either specifically or in general. I'm not sure anyone was told to take a hike, though it is likely that he told certain guys they aren't a good fit in his style of play and they may be better off looking elsewhere.

I thought Stanley and Storr had value to contribute here, but every kid is looking for a situation that maximizes their ability to thrive. It's pretty clear to players that Pitino is looking to upgrade at every position and for some the risk was just too great to have a reduced role on this and next year's squad. I'd be pretty sure Posh is grappling with that right now, and may be just waiting to see what lands here. Certainly Clayton going to Florida is probably a reason for him to want to return. On the other hand Posh may be a guy Pitino encouraged to look for a better situation even if he would be welcomed back.

Point is though, we can speculate all we want, but I wouldn't be certain that Pitino asked anyone to leave, not less "everyone to leave" as you put it.
