2023-24 Roster

Very predictable, Going to grab Phil Green 2.0 from Iona and 6-9 Iona kid that was hurt. Some kid from Kutztown state that’s averaged 15 and shot 36 from 3. Some Towson ST kid that people are going to claim is the perfect Pitino player and they have no idea how he wasn’t ranked in top 500 coming out of HS. The “ He is Rick Pitino he can get 3 Walk-ons and 2 cheerleaders into the tournament” will claim we are Sweet 16 bound.

Those on here that are mad at the roster destruction or have a signed Posh t shirt in their house will go into season angry and hope the team struggles. ( Not me, I am pretty certain I am right but hope I am not and will root that way)

If we struggle next year a bunch will turn on coach.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Exactly. There are 2 types of fans on this board right now:

1- Exited to have Pitino
2- Have a posh bobblehead on their nightstand

The posh stuff is lunacy. Ive never seen such an average player have a cult like following.

I’ve been a fanatic follower of this program for the 30 years, and I’ve never felt more distant from it. The return of Posh would help that a lot. There’s an emotional element to all this, even a parental element. Calipari’s teams of 5 star recruits who came and went in a year even left some Kentucky fans cold. Loyalty, continuity and soul are important. A kid busts his ass for us for three years and is fired. “Just win now,” right? Bullshit. Leaves me cold.
Beating the proverbial but Alexander was given the opportunity to return, he was in no way, shape or form, “fired”. I also would not close the door on his return. But where you want to see “loyalty and continuity” now exists a business in which players are, as Monte opined in another post, flat out professional athletes; at least once available to the highest bidder. Clayton was not out-recruited to choose Florida, he went to the highest bidder, which was 100% his prerogative.
Recruitment has largely become a business meeting, with an emphasis on negotiation of salary. I have posted elsewhere, but the natural progression of NIL is to add on multiple years to the contract, tying a player to a school and a “donor” to a $ figure.
Others have referenced WCBB, where at Uconn Bueckers and Fudd have NIL deals that make some WNBA salaries look like tip money. It makes no sense to think that people will continue to put up millions of dollars for one year rentals or that great high schoolers won’t be interested in staying in college for NIL money comparable or greater than NBA starting salaries. Less than half the games, considerably shorter season, less competition for playing time, college life, etc.

you probably feel distant from the program because A) its the offseason and B) we don't have a roster.

Just wait until November you'll be excited

I think the idea that there are people that want the coach to fail is wrong. There may be one or two but that’s the same attitude of the type of people who wanted us to lose the 1st round of the BET to insure that CMA was fired. That’s attitude stinks. I don’t believe even the most anti Pitino have that.

I say this being one of the most anti-Pitino person on the board. If he comes in signs a bunch of ‘diamonds in the rough’ coaches them up enough to finish top 4 in the Big East and gets an NCAA run I’ll happily eat crow.

But the reality is other teams in conference are taking huge strides. I’m not just talking about UConn massively reloading or Creighton and Xavier filling their gaps to make them even more complete, but G’town, Butler, and Providence, teams we have to beat to make the NCAA tournament are making decisive moves. Two of those teams have had coaches for less time than we had RP.

This is the Big East, it will leave you in the dust if you rest on your laurels. It is not unreasonable to expect you 30m dollar head coach be able to compete and win recruiting battles against even our superior crop of big east coaches (we have a murders row of HC in conference). I would argue it IS unreasonable to get excited about a commitment from the 3rd best player on a MAAC team (even if it was from the best MAAC team).

Good post, RSR.
I'm worried as well and have also eyed and envied the moves of our BEC rivals.
Here's hoping Rick lands some key players by month's end.

If you wanted Posh to leave, you have a warped sense of loyalty and appreciation, and should do some introspection. He's not a pure shooter, but he's done well in the BE for three seasons. Rather you think there are better options out there or not, he has played his *$$ off for this team and he deserves some respect for that. I personally would have loved to have had him, Wusu, Storr and Jones stay. I think all four would have brought valuable experience and/or skills to the team, especially under a coach who develops and runs and actual offensive system. However, they made their grown up choices though and so I wish all the best.

I have faith that a guy who is already in the HoF can get the job done. It should be noted that I also had faith that Lavin, CM and MA could right the ship, but that's water under the bridge. New dawn, new day and hopefully my faith is rewarded this time around. (No I never thought Roberts could turn us back into a powerhouse, but I respect that he re-established the integrity of the program.)

Suppose Coach Pitino said to Posh, “Take a week or two and think if you want to be part of this team. No hesitation on when I tell you to do something. I want only Team First guys on my roster. In the mean time you look around and see if you can find a program that you would prefer and I will explore the talent available.”

You think Pitino is just resting on his laurels???? Hmm 🤔
