And you guys can see what a bang up job we're doingFor the record I liked Lavin a lot too.
Also for the record Monte and Eric are my therapists
Thank you Beast w your excellentBrandon Gardner is an exceptionally likeable kid. He attended virtually every sju home game, on on days CTK played where he would rush to CA straight from his own games. The first time I was introduced to him he flashed a big smile and when i put out my hand to shake his, he opened his arms wide and hugged me. He said he couldn't wait to play here. His mom's first question during recruiting when our team wasn't doing well was "Is coach Anderson going to be here ?" Both mom and son liked Anderson and staff a lot and he already made a lot of friends on the team.
I'd accept her statement that it's not about NIL. The important reasons for him that influenced his decision are gone. I wish him well because he appears to be a great kid, but sad to see him go.
Thank you Beast w your excellent
insight-based post - important that you shared your personal encounter with this young man and his mother; Furthermore, nothing wrong w a parent being involved!!! I wish he stayed - we move on - best to trust our new staff! They have the meats (credentials)!!!
Patience, yes Mr. KnightPitino was hired March 21st. Why haven’t we been in the final four yet?
Patience Grasshopper.
Dear BooI’ve been steadfast in my support for Pitino. I think he’s an amazing hire. I just wish we would have retained a few of these kids. It also annoys me when some on here treat our new coaches as if they can do no wrong. I watched this same rodeo with Lavin, Anderson and Mullin. Obviously Pitino is a better coach than any of those three but nobody is infallible
P
Dear Boo
i do not believe anyone rates Rick Pitino as infallible but as possibly the GOAT and why not? We do not need perfection or infallibility - we just desire above average recruiting and coaching ability and NCAA appearances now and then.
To me those goals are reasonable as is this smart hire of RP & Friends.
Finally can we throw in a little patience as our new HC gets this long dormant and disparaged program awake and moving?
Thanks
Good times are ahead - why they’ve already begun - let’s enjoy them! I am and will.
One shining moment going to show Soriano dribbling, still dribbling, dribbling, still dribbling, dribbling, One Shining moment….Sometimes a run/championship happens when the odds are much lower. There's no doubt in my mind that going in to every single season, Pitino will have his kids believing that they can win a championship.
Your posts are extremely reasonable RSR, and you raise some very valid concerns. I always enjoy reading them and they provide some balance to most of the posts. Keep 'em coming. It’s so bad, i even gave Mullin a chance. I read a post of mine from that era. And it was essentially, ‘boy I liked Lavin, but the admin thought they needed a change and aggressively went after the guy they wanted. And I like a plan aggressively followed’. Which was the exact opposite of how we got Mike (who I said something like ‘who to run a process that terrible and still get a coach that has the pedigree of Mike Anderson maybe we will back into success). So the admin follows an aggressive plan (which I admittedly like) gets Pitino and I am negative. Why is that? 100% personal bias. I think he’s a skeevy guy who does his work when benefits and payment had to be done in the shadows.
So I got to get all my frustration out in the off season because come game time I’m going to be rooting for whomever is in red, whether I like them personally or not. I’ll say it again I’d rather be happy than right, so hears to hoping we make a couple tournaments in his tenure. Although, I’d feel a lot better (although probably everyone would) if we had one commit outside of the Iona bubble to ‘break the seal’. Don’t worry though come Nov I’ll behave and be cheering.
Idi was apparently a brutal tyrant - not sure even in jest if that comparison is warranted.Respect your positivity General, but suspect you would even support Idi Amin for SJ HC spot
I agree and I think he will get to the tournament. If Soriano and the two Iona guards are 3/5 starters he can take them to the tournament for sure. Rick said they could play at Louisville that’s good enough for me. I’ve given up following CBB recruiting I’ll just wait until practices start to see who’s on the team. No point in reacting to every single guy who’s in the portal it’s insanity out there. It’s baseball season anyway the Yanks are taking it this year.I feel like we are already compromising our expectations. Pitino promised immediate results. I’m not expecting a national championship or a big east title next year but I’ll be very disappointed if we don’t dance next year and don’t finish in the top four of the conference the following year. Pitino has five years here best case scenario. If we don’t continue to generate momentum with immediate positive results the job will get more difficult.
Do you know for certain mom urged the decommit? Could be a lot of things, invluding the obvious that the coach he chose to play for is gone and so are nearly every roster player he had gotten to know. Maybe they didn't like queens, maybe he actually will re-commit. If he is considering St. John's still, blaming his mom won't help. It's unfortunate that his mother hasher values messed up
and she turned a tenuous recruitment into a no-go.
Things don't always work out for the better, c'est la vie !
Nothing wrong at all and a whole lot right with always having a positive outlook. We could all do better to be more like you - i know i could. Happy EasterIdi was apparently a brutal tyrant - not sure even in jest if that comparison is warranted.
Have a good night all.
Thought Rick has a 6-year deal?I feel like we are already compromising our expectations. Pitino promised immediate results. I’m not expecting a national championship or a big east title next year but I’ll be very disappointed if we don’t dance next year and don’t finish in the top four of the conference the following year. Is it likely that Rick Pitino, Mike Cragg and the good Father knew and know that it’s a tough job because of Queens and substandard facilities? From Zach Re the 'tough St. John's job, a reality call, one tpufj for me to take but that's what 23× yrs of men hoops effects:
One thing I'm hearing as St. John's struggles in recruiting is this is just a reminder of what an uphill climb it is, Hall of Fame coach or not, to get players to Queens. I fully expect this to turn soon, and I'm not talking about Walter Clayton, who is very unlikely to come, but this is a really tough job and Rick Pitino and Co. are learning that.
100% agree, General. Is it likely that Rick Pitino, Mike Cragg and the good Father knew and know that it’s a tough job because of Queens and substandard facilities?
If everyday uninformed posters (me and perhaps you) and fallible sports writers knew and know, the GOAT or near GOAT Pitino and company knew. Very presumptuous to think otherwise. You can bet your backside on that.
Goodnight.
