2023-24 Roster

Thought he would have gotten the burn he was looking for under the Coach he wanted...
With 80 mins at the PF/C slots- envisioned this type of mix:
Joel: 27
Ledlum: 23
Zuby: 15
SLaz: 15
....now that i type that... i can see why he would want more than 15 mins/game in his last year of college ball
Think we'll see a handful of minutes given to small ball lineups of Luis/Taylor at the 4 most of which would have cut into Slazinski's time.

We can't be 3 deep at every position with BE level players
Center is obviously different than the other positions because of the physical requirements. You can put almost anyone on the roster at the 3 and it won’t kill you.

We’re really just talking about what comes down to the basketball equivalent of an emergency catcher, but God forbid anything major happens to Joel….

Rick would be the first person to say he would rather have a third guy who can play center.

If we wanted to make LuHi happy we could look at the big man who is still looking for a home last time I checked. Rutgers had him in in early July but looks like they put him in a holding pattern. 6'9 but skinny and a project. But he would be five extra fouls and of course have a great coach working with him.

I'm guessing any kid still looking for a home a month before school starts might commit for NIL equal to tuition and a few bucks sprinkled on top.

We can't be 3 deep at every position with BE level players IMO at the 1 and 5 are the only positions we cant and actually at the 5 it's easier nomally to fake it. I saw Barry Milhaven play the 5 when we beat gtown my sophomore year. But even at the 1 In my limited tape viewing ( albeit less than porn ) Dingle seems to be capable or 5-8 minutes and the reports from a friend of mine who has been at practice is his offense is ahead of his defense ( not a bad thing at this point ) so while I didnt ask him if he could play the 1 he didnt explicitly say he couldn't.. I'll text him now

Idk but I do know Marvin Clark miiight have a half inch on Ledlum and he was the starting center on our last NCAA team.
I will always go back to a phrase a very successful D2 coach in Jersey used to use religiously when someone would tout a player citing height and athleticism, “Yeah, but can he play?” Those things are assets to be sure but they are nothing in and of themselves.
Ledlum can play and has something NO ONE can teach, he is relentless. In addition, he is a matchup nightmare and Pitino has enough roster versatility to use that to maximum advantage. Great pickup, IMO, the best of a really, really good group.

Great post Logen.

When it comes to SJU jersey numbers, I will give @gonzalo equal billing of said scary knowledge.

Another nerdy fact, with RJ Luis choosing #21 worn by legends Walter Berry and Malik Sealy.
Been 23 years since that uniform number has been active. Heath Orvis was the last.
any thoughts on retiring Walter Berry's number (we're not the Yankees, but he was special for the two years we had him). I guess in some ways as a 4 year player Malik's #21 might be more deserving; Malik's stats are fantastic.

I think a retirement of #21, like the Yankees did with Berra and Dickey’s #8 Is in order.
