2023-2024 Schedule

I am NOT advocating moving away from MSG. However, we should be playing one or two preferably out of conference games at UBS Arena and Barclays. We cannot ignore that a large number of our Alumni LIVE on Long Island and the outer boroughs. It just makes business sense.

The SJU Long Island fan base has been overly catered to in recent years, with the vast majority of games being played at Carnesseca. It’s high time to give NYC fans more games at MSG. No one in the city wants to go out to UBS arena - and especially not CA.

You are ignoring reality. The majority of our Alumni live East. No one is talking about NOT playing the bulk of games at MSG. Playing games where your Alumni live is smart business.

Are we really doing this again? This is not UBS vs. MSG.

Last year there was 18 or 19 home games. There has not been one season in school history where they played 19 games at MSG. I can't imagine MSG being available for all those games. Where would Billy Joel go?

If the school thinks they can move some of the other games to another arena instead of Carnesecca that's the games that will move.

It’s pretty simple, revenue is much higher at a semi full NBA arena compared to 5200 at CA. Doesn’t matter if it’s at UBS, Barclays or MSG. MSG is obviously going to have scheduling conflicts so can’t play them all there with such short notice.

frankly the arena to me doesn't matter as much as who we're playing in said arena.

i thought the atmosphere and build up around ubs last year, was not bc of the arena, but bc we were playing kansas.

just schedule better games and idc where we play.

Hey, I think it’s great people are thinking about, debating where the games are played. We could’ve played the games in Central Park the last several years and we might not have drawn a quorum.

1 game at each of barclays/UBS is fine, but attendance is usually poorer at those venues (drew less than 10k for kansas and barclays games in the past have been really bad) and neither has the cache or atmosphere of MSG. also, if we're going to have less than 10k in attendance anyway, then the atmosphere at CA does provide a bit of an advantage to the team I think.

Is there any factual data that proves the majority of fans/alumni live in Long Island? If so I'd like to see it. By reading this board it would seem the majority of the fan base is in Florida lol.

In fact, I suspect you have a different portion of the fan base who shows up for games when they are at MSG. When St. John's is good, it attracts the college basketball fans from around NYC who didn't necessarily go to the school.

To add to that. CA is not easy to get to from anywhere except Queens and Long Island. I live in Manhattan and have made the trek, but it's certainly not fun having to sit on a train for an hour and then switch to a bus just to get to the campus.

We should throw away past attendance figures because Pitino alone will increase attendance.

Add in the other part to the equation — winning — and size will matter.

Think Pat Riley’s first year with the Knicks. Season tickets jumped just with his arrival. Not to mention, college coaches have more start power than pro coaches do.

SJU fans are not necessarily SJU alumni.
Truth. It was my dream to go to SJU, but after 8 years in the military and having a family, I couldn't afford the move to be close enough to be a dad/husband and student, so I stayed north and finished my bachelor's at New Paltz. But I was born and raised a redmen fan and spent from when I was old enough to make the 90 minute trip, until I went into the army, sitting in Section 7, watching every home game at Alumni Hall. If the weather was too bad to drive from Dutchess County down for the game, I would lay in the basement with the radio (yes I am a pre-ESPN/cable tv fan). I will root for Dayton if they are playing (worked on part of my masters there) but I will only ever be a diehard SJU (Yankees/Jets) fan.

Grew up in Dutchess county too, went to college in Morehead St in KY came back to NYC (Harlem) then back to where I am now in Poughkeepsie. Lifelong Johnnie fan
Sorry to get off topic

UBS with some doubleheaders would be a good idea. Same with Barclays. Give some of the locals exposure.
I was at UBS for the Kansas game and I thought the place was good for basketball.

I agree . Would be cool to see St. John’s play Hofstra at ubs. But if you look at the pic above clearly this venue was designed for hockey and not basketball. Huge gap behind the basket.

My fault for starting it...I make the yearly trip back to Poughkeepsie every summer to visit the parents and get some real Italian food.

Back on topic, I am hoping, now that my granddaughter has fallen in love with basketball, to start properly training her to root for a non-Ohio team, and get her to some SJU games out this way next year. My daughter-in-law's family have this stupid obsession with Ohio State and I need to get someone in the family to be rooting for SJU.

Overly catered to!!! Really. The reason that so many games were at CA was because it was not economically feasible for the team to play more games at MSG because we don’t draw enough they’re not to cater to Long Islanders. 6:30 starts at CA is no picnic getting to as you fight traffic in the so-called “reverse commute” direction.

Barclays is the worst. Not easy to get to for most!

Barclays has the LIRR and nine subway lines that run there bringing you at worst across the street from the front entrance.

Depending on where you live, the worst can be anyone of the four for someone.
