2022 Yankees

Taillon gets hit by a line drive and leaves the came after the second. Tape show him saying he was okay but one shot shows that his pinkie finger on his right hand looking “deformed”. Hope it was just the angle and no structural damage.

“I caught a nice break for once it seems in my career,” Taillon said, referencing his injury history. “They have a nice X-ray machine in here so we could see immediately that it wasn’t broken. I didn’t have to wait and sit in suspense for too long. But yeah, it’s nice to finally catch a break — or not a break.”

Weissert gets his first career MLB win with two perfect innings in relief of Taillon. In his two outings since his horrendous debut, he has pitched four perfect innings with five strikeouts.

Weissert went to high school in Bay Shore and then Fordham. Some decent pictures in the past out of Fordham.

Good, needed win. Great job by the bullpen, covering 7 innings on the road. But Yanks pitchers still help Ford look like a star. Taillon caught a break not being more hurt. But he'll probably be out a few starts. Will Cole keep his pitch count in check tonight and get through 8 innings? Will Cole be an ace tonight? Judge is a beast.

Got to win tonight though. You got your stopper and need to get some kind of momentum. This team needs to gel, which is sad to say in Sept, for the playoffs if they want to get by Houston not to mention the WC winner.

Stanton is still struggling with the Achilles. You don't come back from that at 100% also you become tentative because the idea of tearing it is super scary.

3-21 (All 3 singles), Zero HRs, 3 Ribbies.

Almost better to let him to rest until the last week and get him stronger. 7 game lead with 30 to go is pretty strong.

my bad. i had the angels feed and they fed me fake news.
weissert , the fordham fireman, was born in bay shore. not nyc.
he received a $75k signing bonus.

I thought you might have been right about his birthplace, I just knew he graduated from Bay Shore High School and Fordham.

game 131. hicks comeback player of year. single, sac rbi, robs ohtani of a homer.
bottom of 5th. yanks up 2 to zip. nite. nite.

I don't want to rag on a guy for getting on base, but Stanton had the right idea when he chased that 3-2 pitch in the ninth, that was the out of the strike zone (he fouled it off). The walk he eventually drew is better than an out (I guess), but I figured they weren't scoring after that (Judge's steal, while ultimately successful, probably made them pitch around Stanton more).

A walk is not always as good as a single. That 9th inning AB from Stanton is exhibit A of that. Maybe he strikes out if he swings at that last pitch, but his job is to drive in runs (maybe he flares a single to right, and Judge scores), not draw walks that the other team probably wants him to get, so they can face two unproductive hitters once they are through with our big guys.

He chased that 3-2 pitch not because he had the right idea and he didn’t want take a walk, he did it because that is what he does especially when he is in a slump.

I do agree with you that sometimes a walk is not as good as a hit. It is this “analytic” with OBS that they sell you why a bunch much of guys hitting in the .220s isn’t bad because they “take their walks”. What good is that if you can’t score.

Absolutely pathetic.

I'm sure that was the reason, but it wasn't a bad idea in general.

Well, I like OPS in general, but there are certain situations where a walk does you little good. Not many, but last night was one of them.
