Making Plays- sure, there were multiple reasons we didn't make the Tournament, but our poor OOC resume absolutely played a major role. 2 reasons:
1. We had 0 quality wins OOC. It was a total waste of a schedule once we lost to the only decent team in BYU. Compare that to Big East teams who got at-large bids. Nova, Creighton and UConn all had major OOC wins. Yes, it was a weird year, but end of the day the teams who scheduled better still were better positioned than we were. Can't rely on the Big East being as good as it was 2 years ago to bail us out. This poor schedule also arguably hurt our preparation going into Big East play and led to our mediocre conference start.
2. Our OOC NET was awful, because it was a weak schedule where we played mediocre teams too closely. I don't remember what our NET was at the start of Big East play, but I believe it was around 85-100. We were essentially playing catch up with our NET but ran out of BE games. Compare that to the last time where we made the Tournament in 2019. Our NET by the end of OOC was roughly 25, and we still made the Tournament with only an 8-10 Big East record.
Our OOC only hurt us. It provided zero quality wins and tanked our NET. Again, weird year and our OOC schedule isn't the only reason we didn't make the Dance, but it absolutely played a major role. No excuses for next year if we schedule poorly again.
