Are we going to schedule anyone outside of the conference ranked above 250?? We’ve seen how much strength of schedule matters with the NCAA Selection Committee.

You will have one Big East for Big 12 Challenge (or whatever it is called) and one in the Gavitt Games with the Big 12.  Add the Pitt game and that's three games against other Big Six conferences.  They are working on at least one more.

I guess we want to continue our dozens of years scheduling OOC games with NJIT, FDU and St Peter’s ?   Can our own JSJ be complicit in selecting those NJ based teams?   Couldn’t we have least done Manhattan , Fordham and Iona ?   Of course , I believe JSJ innocent of any involvement .! Only a joke …

Is SJU not playing in an exempt Tourney this year?

LOL !!! If I had any pull, I would have scheduled Monmouth since it's 20 minutes from my house

Go Johnnies !!!

Not sure playing NJIT on the Saturday after Thanksgiving will lead to a packed house./media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

Hopefully you guys aren't traveling far from home this year.

I don’t know if they are in an exempt tourney this year or not.

Last year our awful OOC kept us out of the Dance despite us going 7-1 with a winning conference record.

So far we don't have any respectable games on the schedule. Pitt will be like playing a mediocre mid-major as their NET will probably be around 200. Hopefully we have solid Big 12/10 opponents.

If we aren't in a tournament then we really need to schedule at least 2 other solid opponents.

That is not an exempt Tourney.  I am talking about something like the Maui Invitational or Charleston Classic.

Yes, Gotham classic vs Pitt.  There are also two games on campus

Unfortunately, Coach A has a history of soft non-conference scheduling.  He prefers that his teams learn the system during the early parts of the year, especially when he has new/young teams.

This upcoming season, IMO, should be the last year of transition.  I initially thought we'd start doing damage in year 3, but COVID, and the transfer rules, delays that a year

On the bright side Carvel just announced a sponsorship with our OOC games

I have to disagree here, the non-conference isn't what kept them out of the tournament, most teams had questionable non-conference slates just to fill games, a lot of teams didn't even get to play a full non-conference schedule.  If UConn simply would have returned the home game instead of refusing to play it, a win there would have likely been enough to be on the right side of the bubble.  UConn had a 33 NET, that would have been a Q2 win against a tournament team.

Also, another underrated fact that hurt tournament chances was DePaul only being able to play 2 non-conference game and brought a horrible NET into conference.  Had they been able to play a full non-conference slate, I have no doubt they would have had a better NET and that loss wouldn't have hurt our NET as much as it did, that one loss essentially knocked us out.

And CMA always plays 3-4 decent teams in non-conference, that'll be enough.  Conference play is 20 games now, so if they go .500 in conference in the future, they'll make the tournament, last year was an anomaly for the reasons I listed, next year teams won't have the option to avoid games and you won't have teams coming into conference with almost no non-conference games.
