We get a new 14 billion dollar owner and all we get is a "lousy" (JK) middle reliever? ;) :)

He made the stomach churn like the others, but he did strike out Marty Barrett

With 105 pitch limits, and very few efficient pitchers, middle relief is perhaps the most undervalued part of the pitching staff.

In 2006 the mets had a very solid group of middle relievers that the wilpons decimated in 2007 because they were too expensive. It cost them in 2007 and 08

It feels like what they want, they will have the budget to get and that is a nice change. No retread of a down reliever that you hope rebounds. Go get the guy you want. I'm sure Cohen treats his hedge fund that way. He will pay up for talent.

Hope Cohen turns things around and changes culture. Used to be so into the Mets but honestly, other than 2000, 2006, and 2015, they've given us lots of embarrassment for the better part of 30 years. So many years we should've been in the playoffs and were not. I haven't really watched baseball as closely as I used to and went from diehard to casual watcher. I barely know the players other than the bonafide stars...I blame it on Mets irrelevancy.

Lots of talk of C James McCann to the Mets.
I follow the Mets.
I really don't follow other MLB teams.
Is McCann any good? Defensive? Offensive?

I believe he had a great first half in 2019 offensively then tailed off. I think he is in something like the 85th percentile in terms of throwing out runners. All in all I believe he is a good offensive catcher, and good defensively too - just not top shelf

Main point is he calls a good game . Pitchers like to pitch to him. Good defensively. Average at best with the stick.

Good to be strong up the middle.

The concern from what I read about voting in Cohen from other owners was that he would buy he was way to a championship which is why I think he brought in Sandy who is well respected in baseball to try and balance that.

This signing to me I think kind of goes along with that. Good option but not the most expensive one. Now when he throws a ton of $$ at Springer and Bauer the retort will be, well we didn't go after Realmuto. :)
