The YAnkees do that sometimes.  Rather than participating in the sweepstakes and driving up the price, they swoop in late and pay more than the best offer at that point.

I hate social media and now I hate my client for getting my hopes up for 45 minutes or whatever it was. I don't even care that we didn't get him just wish I never thought we were about to get him

He's had 2 or 3 excellent years, and a whole lot of meh.  He's getting 40 million this year and 45 million the next with an opt out after both. Third year is something like15 million, Mets offered a comparable contract in total, LA with more money up front.  He jumps ship in 2 years.  That said I would've liked him in Flushing.

The Mets signed Jonathan Villar to a 1 year contract today. He is only 29 years old and is very versatile, playing 2B,SS and the outfield. He can hit with power and also steals bases.

Villar is an excellent pickup. I would play him at 2B and move McNeil to 3B

"I wouldn't expect Villar to be a starter at any one position but a sub at a lot of positions. He is a switch hitter(similar from both sides) so I can see him filling in all over. McNeil is an excellent 2nd baseman and that should be his position as much as possible."
