2020 Jets

The tank is on... go Broncos[/quote]
Just a friendly reminder that, until proven otherwise, the Jets will always disappoint us. ALWAYS!

Okay let’s get a checklist together

- go 0-16
- fire Gase
- hire someone better (so anyone)
- take Lawrence first overall

- trade Sam to a functional franchise and let him enjoy playing on a real team

- hope Douglas can hit on his other draft picks to build around Lawrence while he’s on his rookie deal. And hope he’s the generational talent some tout him as

I see this is as the best course of action. I know a lot of Jets fans are attached to Sam and think he’s the guy but I fear we’ve ruined him and he would need to be paid soon. Best course of action at this point is to reshuffle the deck with a prospect like Lawrence (who is definitely the better prospect if you compare him to USC Darnold). And hope the pairing of Lawrence and our next coach is a good one.

If things play out like this... i will always feel bad for Sam Darnold. We failed him. Everything you can possibly do to make life easier on a young QB, we did none of those things. It sucks, but like I said, if we wind up with the first pick (Tonight against a depleted Denver team was probably their best shot at a win) reshuffling the deck with Lawrence and setting Darnold free is the best thing for everyone involved

We can see why Archie Manning steered Eli to a team he had confidence in instead of allowing him to go to a team that would possibly ruin his career.

It is a shame that the Jets and Giants don't olay each other this season. At least one of NY teams would have a win, lol.

Jack totally agree. Love Darnold, he's a good kid and has said/done the right things. And he's talented, but we ruined him just like most other QB's. He's exactly the type that we failed and will go on to lead another team to a SB shortly after. That said, Lawrence is the better prospect. Taller, faster, more elusive, better arm. He is a freak of nature. But we all know the Jets never want the #1 pick. Just like every year we start awful and get hopeful about the #1 pick...then later in season we steal a few meaningless wins that push us to pick 5-6. We need to be in full blown tank mode and go 0-16. Then fire Gase, then draft Lawrence, trade Darnold for picks, get rid of Bell to free up more $, get a 1st round WR to pair with Mims (if he ever becomes healthy) and then focus on OL completely early in draft. Lawrence with Mims and another top WR, plus a 2nd round RB and more top OL reinforcements could turn this team around quicker than most would think. But we'd also need an OFFENSIVE minded coach and not defensive. A real guru, not a fake one like Gase who rode Manning.

Has to be at least 50/50 odds that if the Jets go 0-16 and land the first pick, Lawrence pulls a Peyton Manning and goes back to college for one more year.

That game would end in a 4-4 tie. :silly:

Darnold will sign with New England and have a HOF career.

No first round wide receiver. Two second round wide receivers and a back who can catch the ball.

How has drafting WR's outside of the 1st round worked the last 20 yrs? Last time we tried drafting a stud WR in 1st was Santana Moss in 2001. He was one of the better WR's we've ever had and became a Pro Bowl level guy. Other NFL teams have 1st round weapons. Why settle for lesser talent compared to our competition? Need to get explosive home run threats. Mims is also not that. He's a 2nd or 3rd option on a decent team. Need a true #1 stud WR badly or we won't be scoring for another 20 yrs.

There are great athletes with great speed that can be taught the position outside the first round. I saw Jet receivers not getting separation against Broncos. Some of that is personnel deficiencies and some is system deficiencies. When Jets hired Gase the song in Florida was
"Not only is he really gone
We found someone to inflict him upon"

If the Jets put the whole team on waivers, less than half of the the roster would get picked up.
Same could be said for the Giants
In the weekly power rankings, they are the two lowest rated teams in the league

Its not where you take them, its who you take.

Plenty of elite WR's weren't 1st round picks. The Jets issues have been identifying talent, not picking the wrong positions in the wrong rounds. You need a GM who hits on more picks than he misses on. Something you (and I) hadn't had in a long time.

I feel like if the jets actually make a good hire, Lawrence will enter the draft. But who knows where his priorities are.

I’ll tell you one thing... if I’m a Broncos fan, I’m pissed that my team won last night.

Trevor Lawrence could walk into Denver with Cortland Sutton, Noah Fant, Melvin Gordon, KJ Hamler, Jerry Jeudy... not bad at all. They should be the ones trying to tank.

Mahomes is in their division and he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. I’m sure Elway would be elated to get a prospect like Lawrence into that offense. Last night was actually kind of a loss for Denver in that sense

Exactly. Jets have 2 game lead over Denver in the Lose for Lawrence sweepstakes (although tie breaker won't be head to head).

I like Darnold and feel that if the jets get him a few play makers that he'd be a good qb for you guys.
Yeah I know it's only Jones 2nd year but I'm starting to believe that he was a 2nd pick at best, he's starting to remind me of Dave Brown.
They need 0-16, fire Gettleman, and new gm drafts Lawrence. Just hoping.

I think Darnold can be a decent QB with some weapons, but I think Lawrence has Pro Bowl/MVP caliber potential. I'm afraid Darnold is already infected with the Jet virus from Gase and terrible players around him. By the way, whoever said defense wins is wrong. Another week of needing to score 30+ to win. If you don't have playmakers, you don't score TD's. If you don't score TD's, you don't win games. OBJ scored a huge TD to seal game on a play a Jet would've been tackled for a loss of 2 yards on. It's on the QB to get you the ball, but what happens when you catch it is completely up to talent. Speed and elusiveness. We have zero.
