2020 Jets

Its really strange that the Jets are running what seems to be the same offense as they did under Todd Bowles except the Gase version is even worse. Brilliant offensive mind anyone?

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

The day the six Super Bowl winner was promoted to Head Coach, he was already out the door as he knew what laid ahead, hence his only lasting a day.

But the one that won 6 SBs they couldn't even keep for one day because of their incompetence.
I wrote “hiring”. Now, “retention”, that’s a whole different thing...

Or in this case, once a decade

This man has talent. Why are his top three receivers right now Chris Hogan, Josh Malone and Braxton Berrios? I didn’t even know who Josh Malone was until last Sunday

I know a lot of people like what Joe Douglas is doing, hording draft picks... but he said he believes Darnold is a franchise QB. Why is he hanging him out to dry? Surely he didn’t think drafting Denzel Mims was enough...?

Building an NFL franchise to a high level isn't an overnight process. Its nearly impossible to go from one of the worst rosters in the sport to one of the better ones in 1 or even 2 seasons.

Look at Miami...they stripped it all the way down last year to bare bones and had a very good (according to the pundits) FA period and draft. Still going to be a bad football team that at best could flirt with .500 but is at least another year away from making any serious noise.

So year one was a write off to acquire draft capital. Year two is about developing the young talent they brought in this past offseason and improving on 5 wins from last year. , Year three will be about filling the holes in the roster to the point of being a playoff team. Of course that rebuild will start again in year 4 or 5 if Tua turns out to be a bust.

I agree that Darnold has talent and its hard to judge him with so little talent around him. I think if you have the QB, the rebuild is quicker then 3 years provided you have a coach and GM. Not sure you have that at this point, and changing coaches/GM's would likely mean they move on from Darnold and start all over. It's like Ground Hog's day when you are a bad team with bad front office/coaches.

It's funny how so many people are left scratching their heads at his lack of weapons. The Jets are so stupid, it's seriously as if they actively want a terrible offense for the past 20 yrs. We let Anderson go (only WR with pulse), and replaced him with no one. We never draft them in 1st round either or RB's. We always rely on trying to find "diamonds in the rough" in the 2nd round or later who end up getting hurt or complete busts. We never sign WR's in their prime either. If we do get any big names, it's in the latter part of their career and they never do anything. Other teams draft 1st round weapons to pair with their 1st round QB's. Dez Bryant, Amari Cooper, OBJ, Zeke, Fournette, Saquon, Julio Jones, REAL PLAYERS! And they need to be paid. But the Jets never pay anyone. Even the best safety in the NFL they drafted. The draft picks that do work out and succeed here don't get paid and then leave...and the ones that don't work out get cut. That's why we are here. Santana Moss was the last true offensive weapon the Jets drafted in 1st round. 19 years ago in 2001. Since then it's been nothing but defense and line.

I think the one group of fans that has less patience than redmen fans are Jets fans, they cannot even be honest with themselves.
1) everyone knew we had a 3 year rebuild. Everyone also knew we had the worst OL in football and Joe D believes in a solid offensive line. Sureing up the line in free agency and getting Beckton with the first pick was more important than landing a receiver. We need lots of bodies and it is not a one year fix. Go back to 2006 (last time we started being competitive) we got both Brick and Mangold.

2) very few 1st round receivers are worth it Maybe one every 2 years. Just as many 2nd and 3rd rounders become productive starters than1st rounders. If you look from 2010 the success rate is less than 30%. OL and edge rusher then CB seem to be much safer long term picks.

3) never draft a running back in the first round unless you are KC and set everywhere. RB has the shortest life in the NFL. There also productive backs in almost every round. If there is a Peterson or a Dickerson you may make an exception but as a general rule OL edge and corner back.

4) as much as I love Jamal Adams he did not want to be here and we were not going to pay him 20 -25 million a year for a safety. Yes that is what it would take to sign him. He cared more about he "Brand" than he did the team.

5) if you were honest when the schedule came out the first 6 games went down as losses.. What did you expect with no training camp, a mostly new team and ol and lack of weapons. JD did try to improve the reciveres with perriman, dotson, and mills (all better than Anderson im my opinion who diapered for large parts of games because he was moping about not getting targets) God pissed on us this year with all the injuries to WR's

So we suck gase gets fired and we have the first pick. If JD hires the right coach and they both think Darnold is good do you take the number one pick and get the franchise qb or trade it (trade darnold for a 4th maybe) and try for the huge haul (2 firsts this year 2 seconds and a first next year) own the draft with 3 firsts and 4 seconds and finally land our edge and some wr's (a better class than this year)

It's not just the draft though...when's the last time we actually signed a top WR/RB/TE that was in his prime and made huge contributions? When's the last time we traded for one? We don't care about offensive skill positions and that's the philosophy that gets you in the basement permanently. Did you see the scores on Sun? Most of the teams that won scored 30+ points. For years we have seen the Jets score 17, 10, 3, 14, 10. Why do you think that is? Because we have zero offensive weapons. I know lines take time to build, but you can't just put Darnold out there with literally 2nd-3rd string guys on any other team. Protection is only part of the equation. Alvin Kamara took a play that appeared to be a 5 yard reception and turned it into a 40+ yard TD. All by himself. Because he's a home run threat and he can do that. We never have any player who can do that. I'm also sick of Darnold and all the other overrated USC Baywatch boy QB's. Blow it up and start over except Becton. Get a new coach, get Lawrence, get picks for Darnold, and get a crap ton of weapons.

Agree with a lot of what you say but to call Jet fans impatient when they haven't made the Super Bowl in 52 seasons is where we part ways.
How did the Le’Veon Bell experiment go?
I know Bell is 28, but it appears either his best years are behind him, or he was simply the beneficiary of an amazing Steelers system. RB's have very little shelf life. Even after 4-5 yrs some guys are finished. I still remember when Curtis Martin at like 36 was dominating the league and never got hurt. Players were just built differently back in the day. Remember when teams had 1 main RB getting 90% of the carries every year? Different time now. I will repeat this point only because it shows the absurdity...the last time we drafted a true 1st round offensive weapon was almost 20 yrs ago with Santana Moss. In addition to him, we had Coles, Chrebet, Martin, and a good QB in Pennington. That's the last time we had a rock solid offense that made other teams nervous. Then at some point soon after, we decided we would not try to score TD's and try to just have good defenses. You see the product of that stupid philosophy. The NFL has been about offense for a while and will be for the near future. High octane, playmakers, deep throws, big plays. Franchise QB and at least 3 solid weapons, some of which are Pro Bowl level is the recipe.

Ever since we drafted Gholston, we have done shit except for Adams. Jury is still out on a few like Williams/Darnold/Becton. Dee fn Milliner!!! That's for bamafan :) Not to mention.. the Jets killed Carl.

The JETS had their magical Mangina. How'd that work out for them?

My plan would be: let Gase finish out year so we have a shot at 1st overall pick. If we get it then we have to get Lawrence who is a monster and can run. Trade Darnold to the highest bidder for picks. I believe we have several 1st rounders. Use 1 on an offensive weapon preferably WR with blazing speed and great YAC potential. Use the other on another OL. So then you could potentially have Lawrence, a 1st round stud WR, and at least 2 solid OL (Becton plus the other pick). Get defense in the later rounds. If we don't get 1st overall, we need to use 2 first rounders on WR if there are 2 studs. Get 1 WR with height and jumping ability with sure hands and get 1 WR with blazing speed and YAC potential. Then get OL's in later rounds or trade/sign the best available.
