2020 BIG EAST MEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

The wave of mass hysteria is moving much faster than the spread of the disease.

I'm going to the Garden tonight, and only change is I make sure to wash my hands.. Maybe bring clorox wipes to wipe the seats. Ok a little concern here.

No fans at NCAA Tournament. My guess is Big East Tournament will include no fans starting tomorrow, if not tonight.

It is a tough tough decision to be faced with. But knowing the situations I am in to operate life, I dont see restricting access to an arena as a top priority. Think the latest number of people that take NYC mass transit on a DAILY basis was at 5.7 million. You want to talk about close proximity and how something can spread....you start there.

Anyway... back to the BET tourney... Go st johns!
I know I would have a hard time commuting by mass transit right now. Good thing us Angelenos live in our cars. That said I am getting on a plane late next week unless the world ends so . . . .
I took the LIRR and Subway five days round trip for work last week (more than two subway trips on Friday due to meetings as other locations) and the LIRR again on Saturday for the St. John's game. I have also taken both three days and counting for work this week.

Am I concerned, yes, especially since I am scheduled for hip replacement surgery next week. I wash my hands and use sanitizer when water is not available normally, now more so and I am avoiding things. I didn't visit my folks last weekend just in case I had something and didn't know it and so I wouldn't pass it on to them as Dad is a WWII Vet and it well in his 90s and my Step-mon is in her 80's.

As for the game tonight, I thought about going, but I am so busy at work that I am just having the lunch I brought three hours ago now (its now a soggy salad) and the game will be well underway by the time I get out.

I pray for you all, and just do what you feel is right in trying to avoid it.

Sure this is the one we win the whole thing and get no coverage.
Was thinking exactly the same lol it would be par for the course. I doubt many fans are there...tickets are going for $1 and in some spots it's usually $150+ it's like $20-30. I could understand if otherwise healthy 25 yr olds were dropping dead suddenly from coronavirus all over, but the numbers don't lie. How is this worse than some other recent ones? Swine flu killed hundreds of thousands and this has killed 31. Yet you look at the media and it's all 100% panic. People need to relax. Be cautious but relax.
Please stop posting about this. Your information is going to get people sick, and some killed that might otherwise be able to avoid this until there is a vaccine.

Swine flu appeared in the US in late march of 2009. The first death attributed to it was 6 weeks later on May 4th and at that point there were 260 cases in the country. It got way worse from there, as you pointed out.

The first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the US was on 2/26/20. The first death was on 2/29/20. It may feel like that was an eternity ago, but that was TWO WEEKS AGO. Today there are over 30 dead and over 1,000 confirmed cases.

Which virus is more concerning based on its early progression? If they both unfold the same way, how bad do you think this could be.??

Worst part is, that our healthcare system is about to deal with a Tsunami of sick people all at the same time. Some with middle or moderate symptoms and others that are deathly ill. There won't be enough beds, doctors and supplies to go around.

This is going to get worse before it gets better even if the fatality rate ends up being lower than other viruses when its all over.

Mind numbingly stupid tweet. He basically just said:
"They are going to stop fans from attending the BE tourney starting tomorrow due to this worldwide health crisis. Totally safe right now though, it's tomorrow things get dangerous."
I still think there's some overreaction going on.
What if its an underreaction?

Which has worse consequences that can't be undone? Being overly cautious for the next few weeks, or blindly ignoring the lessons to be learned from how this played out in China and Italy and telling people its just the seasonal flu??

So it’s ok that the airports are open for business international and domestic, public schools remain open, people travel the Subway and rails to go to the office because all that is safe?

But closing sports arenas is cautious?

Nope. It's not ok. It's a MAJOR problem. Just shows you how poorly we have reacted to this.

Hey as long as the reaction is consistent I can agree with it. Closing arenas by itself has zero impact as long as those other avenues of transmission remain untouched.

He has been released. They're calling it a cold.
