2020 BIG EAST MEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Sure this is the one we win the whole thing and get no coverage.

Just curious. For those that are upset about fans being allowed to attend games.
Are you just as upset that all outside the home work hasn’t been stopped? Traveling to and from work via ANY of the confined recycled air supply of various trains, buses and subways is probably a 100x more dangerous than sitting in an arena. Yet no businesses have been closed. Are you outraged that NYC schools remain open?
Do you still fly? Are you outraged that flights to and from known affected areas still continue both domestically and internationally? Are you upset that bars and restaurants remain open? What about religious services?

I am seriously trying to understand the logic. All of the examples have been proven to be some of the biggest spreaders of disease for example the flu. It’s interesting how much of a lightning rod sports is in our society.

Was thinking exactly the same lol it would be par for the course. I doubt many fans are there...tickets are going for $1 and in some spots it's usually $150+ it's like $20-30. I could understand if otherwise healthy 25 yr olds were dropping dead suddenly from coronavirus all over, but the numbers don't lie. How is this worse than some other recent ones? Swine flu killed hundreds of thousands and this has killed 31. Yet you look at the media and it's all 100% panic. People need to relax. Be cautious but relax.

The local /state / federal authorities all have the power to ban large gatherings. They choose instead to fiddle while Rome burns.[/quote]

Would like some insight on the logic here. Honestly- cause my work also instituted a mandatory WFH policy for some, while others can continue to operate business as usual. I get the logic... ensure that if someone on the floor gets the virus, at least some of the population should be clear...

But with "large gatherings" - sporting events in particular since we are in this Forum, what is the thought:
The population is too stupid to understand the risk of attending a large enclosed gathering? and will thus encourage the potential spread? That the powers that be must take the decision out of our hand?

Are people upset that they might come into contact with individuals who have attended these large gatherings?

Honestly curious- no subtle attempt to poke fun. cause for those who live in NYC... its is extremely difficult to operate in isolation.

It's all about not overwhelming the health care system with a slew of cases at once. That is what is happening right now in Italy. Banning large gatherings helps slow down the rate of transmission, as does working from home, etc.

The mortality rate is at least 10x that of the regular flu, and there is no vaccine, which is why this is being treated so much more seriously.

Understand, and necessary precautions must be heeded.

But where do you draw the line?- cause by the logic i see here, half measures wont't prevent anything.

What constitutes a large gathering? 10 people.. 20...100? If the authorities in charge truly wanted to contain the spread without a shed of doubt, or concern of adverse economic impact... We are talking about restricting occupancy at restaurants / grocery stores / subways / buses etc any place that you can find yourself in close proximity to another (3-6 feet)... for several weeks / potentially months.

It is a tough tough decision to be faced with. But knowing the situations I am in to operate life, I dont see restricting access to an arena as a top priority. Think the latest number of people that take NYC mass transit on a DAILY basis was at 5.7 million. You want to talk about close proximity and how something can spread....you start there.

Anyway... back to the BET tourney... Go st johns!

Update on BET -

The plan is for the Big East Tournament to be played with fans in attendance at Madison Square Garden as scheduled, but it could end up not being completed as more coronavirus information becomes availableIt's worth noting that Creighton is the No. 1 seed heading into the Big East Tournament. However, Creighton, Seton Hall and Villanova all finished the regular season tied in first place with a 13-5 conference record

The NCAA had originally scheduled a conference call regarding the NCAA Tournament, but now that's not happening. It's certainly going to be interesting to see how this is all handled with Selection Sunday just a few days away.

Guaranteed St. John's ends up going to the finals this year and they cancel the tournament lol.

I had tickets for the game tonight, but out of caution I chose to sell my tickets at half price. Just not worth the risk when I can watch the game on TV.

Highly doubt anyone else takes the route of the Ivy League. It will be played. Just maybe with no ppl if the next few days spirals.

Zagoria;

Big East associate commissioner Stu Jackson said in a radio interview he does not rule out the Big East Tournament ending Saturday with no fans in the stands -- or being canceled at some point after tonight.

"All options are still on the table."

Story coming on @njdotcomsfan

This is a good starting point for any discussion or decision on any topic.

Wonder if Stu spoke out of turn earlier today when it wasn't a doubt.

I know I would have a hard time commuting by mass transit right now. Good thing us Angelenos live in our cars. That said I am getting on a plane late next week unless the world ends so . . . .
