2020 BIG EAST MEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

If st johns won 3 in a row here and marquette gets bounced in their 1st game, st johns should get in over marquette. St johns would have clearly proved that they are the better team at this point of the season.

But the ncaa committe doesnt think that way.

Creighton sophomore guard Marcus Zegarowski has been diagnosed with a meniscus injury to his right knee.

He will continue to be evaluated in the days to come and is considered doubtful for Creighton’s BIG EAST Tournament opener on Thursday.

STATEMENT FROM THE BIG EAST CONFERENCE

The BIG EAST Conference is moving forward with our plans to conduct the BIG EAST Tournament at Madison Square Garden as scheduled on March 11-14. We have maintained a direct line of communication with the New York City Department of Health and Office of Emergency Management, who are not recommending the cancellation of large gatherings in New York City at this time. We will remain in close communication with our contacts in both units and at Madison Square Garden, the NCAA, professional leagues, other conferences and medical experts in the coming days and will provide updates as circumstances warrant.

The priority of the BIG EAST and our member schools is the health and safety of our student-athletes, administrators, coaches, event personnel and spectators who attend BIG EAST events. We encourage those attending the games to closely follow the CDC and New York City Department of Health hygiene and prevention recommendations relating to COVID-19.

Did anyone here cancel their plans due to the coronavirus? Curious if attendance will be down this March. Would've been shocked if they cancelled it, but a week from now they may not have had a choice given the expected number of cases.

I heard from some people that tickets are insanely cheap now because everyone is scared about coronavirus. May have to go sit courtside for $50 or something and ignore the media hype!

Still planning to go, but just be cautious. Actually got a $6 ticket for the Chase Bridge so actually feel better that it's an open space as opposed to being packed in.

Creighton’s Marcus Zegarowski will have his knee scoped tomorrow in New York, won’t play in the Big East tourney this week, but there is optimism he will play in the NCAA tourney, source told

When is the official start date for the first round of the NCAA tournament? While it’s not impossible to play 2 weeks after surgery, it is very difficult to do. Different circumstances, but Zion just sat out 10 weeks or so after the same surgery. My patients typically go 6 weeks or so before really pushing back in to sport activities.

It is also risky to come back too early. Cowboys LG had a knee scope last season and returned to football 2 weeks later. He ended up tearing his ACL that game because he hadn’t regained strength to stabilize his leg. Plus football OL is easier to return to than basketball.

Big East closes locker rooms to media during tournament. Games will go on as scheduled.

Going to be a dogfight against G'Town and possibly Creighton regardless of who they're missing. I don't think I've seen a season where so many teams were missing key players and still played at a very high level even in their absence. Over the years seeing our BET I certainly won't expect anything but would be nice to at least beat G'Town.

The fact that the BE Tourney is going ahead with fans in the stands is outrageous. Is it really too much of a "hardship" to just televise the games, while keeping large crowds away in the midst of a serious epidemic?

We are just screwed as a country.

The local /state / federal authorities all have the power to ban large gatherings. They choose instead to fiddle while Rome burns.
