2020 BIG EAST MEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Again, I respectfully disagree. I don't see what was pathetic about it. Tough situation; tough calls; still evolving information...
Pathetic leadership all around;

Val Ackerman: "We had NCAA staff on a video conference with our presidents a few hours ago, and they did not know some of these moves were being made by these conferences."

Goodman;
This is yet another reason why the NCAA needs to appoint a college basketball commissioner. Ridiculous that every conference had to announce it is canceling, rather than one uniform statement.

Agreed!
The commissioners all know eachother. They are texting and talking. The other conferences were making decisions 10/15 minutes before games started. Instead BE started the game then pulled it at halftime. First they looked foolish as the only League not cancelling. Then they look foolish calling it at the half.

Tough spot. I don't think the NCAA wanted to tell the conferences they had to cancel when the NCAA tourney is still scheduled.

I also think they hoped to see how games without fans played on TV so they could convince CBS/Turner the product would be ratings worthy.

Fireable offense for a commissioner?

I was running errands before our game and listening to the Charlotte sports talk station between 11-12 this morning. The pundits were skewering the ACC because they hadn't yet cancelled their tournament when "the other major conferences had already done so" (they mentioned SEC, Big 10, Big 12 and AAC). They went on to say it was a bad look for ACC to be last to cancel and stated it would really be a PR disaster if they let their noon game go off. No mention of the Big East at all. Of course, ironically ACC cancelled just before tipoff and we waited until halftime. Seems inexcusable to me for us to be one step behind everyone else. Stay safe everyone.

it just is what it is. With only 1/2 of one quarterfinal game in, it served no purpose to have just one result. I'm sure that when the day started, even when the first game started, they planned to complete the quarterfinal round today. The story was evolving and they decided to pull the plug, it made no sense to continue the game because at the point they decided (game in progress), to have just one result was just as foolish.

Playing the 2nd half would have been absolutely ridiculous if you were cancelling the rest of the tournament. Besides there being no tangible reason other than the nonsensical trying to “save face”, what if they played and someone got seriously hurt?
Whether they should have ever started is another thing entirely. But trying to contain this by arbitrarily handpicking under what circumstances and locations people can and can’t congregate is pretty much indicative of what passes today as “leadership.” Close movie theaters, plays, Broadway, bars, all amusement parks including the Disney type sites, Las Vegas, non-essential businesses and stores, etc. and I will think this is anything more than an easy way of giving the appearance of trying to manage the situation. Big headlines, little effect.

People are going to be afraid to leave their homes.
