2019 Transfers

Gonzaga freshman guard Greg Foster will transfer, source told @Stadium.

Not sure if they changed rule, but it's only one year sitting when transferring between Pac-12 schools. You do, however, lose a year of eligibility in addition to sitting. So he'd be sitting one year after a forgettable year to have only two years left. It's a big gamble, unless his mom knows someone who can forge her health records.

Questionable stats across the board, maybe a depth guy to round out the roster?[/quote]

We have those guys. We need better players than this guy. His numbers are poor. I’m not sure what he can provide us when we need a starting PG.

He was on the honor roll 2 straight years at FAU.

Which aren’t exactly in abundance at this time of year. He is a decent, experienced, pretty good sized PG, a player who can give us minutes and may just be the best we can do under the circumstances. Just reality, the better transfer players are not exactly knocking down the door to come to SJU. Why would they? And he does not clog the roster moving forward.

Wasn't bad at FAU. Would give size and experience to compliment McGriff. Not sure what happened at Monmouth

Reasonable size, defends it appears, has enough experience to be a rental or placeholder so to be speak, avoid throwing McGriff to wolves and set up an open field to recruit Diarra or Curbelo. Best I got! :)

Maybe the best we can do at this late date. According to the article he is not a good shooter and needs work. Seems to be written at time he transferred to Monmouth.
His numbers aren’t great so kind of an indicator that we are in trouble at PG and it may not be solved for next season. No surprise here.

Nothing happened, King Rice plays a lot of players, a lot of guards, so their stats are affected by shared, distributed minutes. Rutherford got his share of those minutes; he is no world beater but a decent player who plays good defense. He is what we need; an experienced, decent sized grad transfer PG; a Mvouika (sp.) type stopgap. IMO, would be a good pickup given the circumstances.

Shooting numbers not good but assists, steals, rebounds are. He is well traveled and experienced which would help with the transition with Mcgriff. If he is pass first/team first he can contribute and be part of a defense to offense system where he looks good in the open court.

Just looking at Nick's career stats, something that sticks out to me is his stats dropped dramatically from his time at FAU to Monmouth. The skill level in the conferences isn't that much different they are both mid-majors, so that leads the question why did his PPG drop down by 4 and his his assist drop down by 2 and he played around the same minutes at the two schools.

Admittedly I don't watch either of these teams unless they are in the NCAA tournament, but looking at the team stats it appears that Monmouth runs a slower tempo and they pretty much just let 2 guys on their team get all the shots. That can explain why he went from 9 PPG to 5 PPG and from 4 APG to 2 APG. Monmouth only averaged 65 PPG this previous year. In comparison CMA's teams typically average anywhere from 75-82 PPG. Staff could have watched film on him and feels in a faster paced offense he'd be closer to the 9 PPG player he was at FAU. Also, reading about him he seems to be a 2-way guy that really plays hard on the defensive end and rebounds well for guard. CMA likes those type of guys.

If he can just come in and be solid on defense, provide leadership, and get you 6-7 PPG, 3-4 APG, 4-5 RPG and be a respectable shooter, 40% from 2 / 30% from 3. That's not a bad find in June.

Averaged less than 5 shots per game in just under 25 minutes per game. Just under 80% from the line. I saw Monmouth once last year but don’t remember him. Buddy who saw them 5-6 times likes him for us within realistic expectation considering the current roster and available transfers who would consider SJU. Describes him as above average defender and excellent rebounder from the position, basically under control PG on offense.

We are definitely targeting kids with defensive skill as well which I do like. SJU has not been a good defensive team for a long time.

Add Rutherford and perhaps an interior Juco they may be looking at and shut it down to focus on crucial 2020 class. With the loss after 19-20 of Heron, Figgy and Rutherford if landed, this will be a crucial recruiting season for Johnnies.
