For me, the end of a baseball season is sad when your team isn't in the playoffs. Guys have their bags packed, some to go home. Others to fish or hunt, others on far flung adventures. Their heads usually aren't in the game and most starters are benched. To me, it's another December 31st, only new year is 6 months away.
The opposite happened yesterday and over the weekend. Team pouring out of dugout on Dom Smith's walk off snatch of victory from the jaws of defeat. An entire team on the field to hug Alonso nm on breaking the rookie hr record. Tears of joy.
Exuberance that only little leaguers are supposed to have. Fans sticking around to the end.
Lots and lots of bright spots. Diaz will figure this out. Wouldn't be shocked if we get a surprise or two of guys who can walk but want to stick around. Alonso is a joy to watch, and the cast of young guys who can play is startling. It's a core to build on.
86 wins was so improbable in late June.
Pray Ronnie is okay.
Spring training can't get here soon enough. It's only a big east season away.
