Oh he would be dumb not to leverage it with SHU but if it comes down to money SHU can't match what Va Tech can give him in the end.
Move would make sense financially but I'm just having trouble picturing him leaving Seton Hall for Virginia Tech.
It is a football school in a BRUTAL basketball conference. I mean UNC and Duke are tough enough but now you got your state neighbor down the road building a monster program, UVA and Tony Bennett. And the program outside of the last few years under Buzz has very little basketball history.
It just shows how good a coach Buzz Williams is. What he has done at Va Tech is tremendous. Again many looked at him and scratched their head when he left a great situation at Marquette (and remember Marquette has money) for that job.
But Willard is a solid coach. But man he is going to have to get players to have any shot in that conference.
agree & think that is why he stays at SH.
BTW-When people talk about turnarounds and how SJU has “improved” every year under Mullin look at Va Tech, that is a turnaround. Because we are not talking about improving by a couple of wins every year and we are not talking about taking over a program coming off back to back 10-8 conference seasons and then failing to match either season in 4 years.
Seth Greenberg went 4-12 his last year at Va Tech and got fired. James Johnson only got 2 years and went 4-14 and 2-16 before he was canned. After first year of 2-16, Buzz went 10-8, 10-8, 10-8 and 12-6 in THAT CONFERENCE. NIT, NCAA, NCAA, NCAA last 4 years. 42-30 in conference his last 4 years. Beat Virginia on the road last year, beat Duke I think 3 consecutive years including this year without Justin Robinson. 1 total NCAA Tourney appearance in 20 years, that was Seth in 2007, before Buzz just took them to 3 straight.
But the key is the 3 years PRIOR to taking over Va Tech they went 10-42 in conference. That is a turnaround. That is improvement.
