2018/19 Schedule

Agreed regarding major opponents at MSG. Imagine Michigan St. vs. SJ at the Garden...or UNC...or something. I have a hard time believing we can't get some top programs to bite at that with the exposure in NYC. What could the reasoning be if they're the ones turning us down?
Good teams have nothing to gain and everything to lose by playing us at MSG when we aren't good. We have played well in the garden these past few seasons, the kids enjoy playing there.
IMHO, I personally feel good teams (Duke, Syracuse) know we are tough opponent at the garden. In years past I didn't care who the opponent was playing us at MSG, always had a chance. It's called Redmen through and through.
Big East is down somewhat.

SJU has an easier out of conference schedule.

Door is open for successful “dance” season with Ponds.

Can Chris, staff & team seize the moment, independent of injuries of significance?

To me this season is litmus test with ample opportunity to impress, show program is alive and positively impact recruiting. Time for SJU to get some return on its ample financial investment in this regime.
Indeed the lowest return on investment in St. John's basketball history. Hard to fathom that Nevada "raised" Eric Musselman's salary from $400k to $1 million per year while Mullin, when combined with the salary of the invisible Slice, is costing St. John's close to $2.5 million per year.

How about scheduling UCLA in the initial LAVIN INVITATIONAL?

I admit it is a head-scratcher.
At this point, CM has got to get it done.
"We shall see." (!)

I think this was always going to be the year CM would face more serious expectations. However, based on his own doing (or not doing), he has put a much more pronounced target on his back.

Agree JohnnyFan.
This entire Board of posters will have our collective fingers crossed.
Hoping all goes well and we're not relegated to grumbling the 'coulda wulda shulda' laments of disgruntled fans.

An opponent this year

Josh Okogie's departure is a major blow to Georgia Tech. Either the Yellow Jackets or Pitt will be picked last in next year's ACC Preseason Poll.

Gem of an Ad!
Oh, for an image of a Grad Big to be added...and not a ghostly apparition.
Let's go Johnnies.

I've said before that I'm happy Keita is coming . . . but if "29 games played" is what the athletic department felt was the best thing about him, then that's proof we need another big.

St. John's summer school starts next week. Told everyone, including all new players but LJ Figueroa, will be there. He'll arrive first week in June. #sjubb

He made the Final Four don't forget that....LOL

Keita played more total minutes on a final four team than Simon and Owens did their respective freshman seasons. Agree that another big would be great. But don't sleep on Keita.

Not sure what other stat about the kid's 'stub' frosh year could be cited.
He was a 4* outta HS and averaged 9.6 mins / game as a freshman for a Final Four team (and played in the NCAAs).
He averaged 2 TRebs / game, 1.3DREBs / game, but very poor shooting--although I doubt he was in SC's offensive schemes.
He gets an' incomplete', but the kid has a great frame, some bulk, and we've heard good buzz from practices.
Who knows, but I too, am very happy to have him and yes, we need one more ready-to-play Big.

Ok let me state that I hate the tea leaves. The cryptic messages that lead to wild speculations that 99.9% of the time don't come true are irritating. My take on the Zach comment and Paultzman's tea leaves is that perhaps SJU is looking at an individual that has thrown his name into the NBA draft and is not sure about returning. If the player returns perhaps SJU could be in play. Wish I didn't have to read the damn leaves.

Please let me be the first to tell you that if you don’t like reading other posters, especially a poster that is praised and thanked repeatedly for his insight and contributions to this board and who has been nothing but an absolute gentleman , please feel free to skip over his posts.
By the way you don’t have to read the tea leaves. That is your choice.
Personally I love reading the tea leaves and other than Kentucky and Duke every other team looses out far more on recruits than they win.

The return game of the home-and-home series between St. John's and Duke is expected to again be in the middle of conference play, per a source. Game is in Durham. #SJUBB

Too bad. With their top incoming class and young team, I figured the earlier we could play them the better. At least the game is happening, unlike the last return game.
