2018/19 Schedule

I realize we aren't going to schedule all top 25 teams for OOC, but IMO it diminishes our brand playing so many "meh" teams. Temple is ok...VCU is ok...Cal is a F5 school that rarely matters in hoops, Georgia Tech is a good game. All I see are GT and Duke so far to really prove anything nationally. If this were last year when the Big East was insanely hard, I'd be more understanding. What some aren't realizing is we will not have as many ranked teams in conference next season and thus less chances to pick up great wins and build a resume. The fact that Seton Hall is playing Kentucky at MSG and not us is ridiculous. If we can't get a good opponent for the Holiday Festival then cancel it. They will never make any money off it if they keep featuring dud opponents. Not saying it has to be UNC but at least a known brand nationally would be nice.

You do realize that 99% of teams have a similar OOC schedule every year. Everybody schedules a couple big name schools to drive up their SOS and a bunch of middle to lower tier schools. Why schedule all tough games and eliminate yourself from the NCAA’s before conference play?

Joe3's post is pretty ludicrous
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Same shi(r)t, different day.
Big 10 has 14 teams Big East has 10 teams, don't know why they don't just have 10 games per season since the games are all played on home courts and not DHers at more neutral sites (so scheduling problems are minimized). Maybe not enough room on ESPN schedule?
Make the top four Big East teams play two Big 10 teams each. Then everyone is involved and even if they lose, our best teams at least have a strength of schedule boost come tournament time.

Our overall SOS last year was #7. It makes no sense to add a number of more difficult games just to get our SOS to #2 or #3. This is just complaining to complain.

Hopefully this is an exhibition game against this D3 team.

Someone should inform Mount St. Mary's that they apparently were removed from D-I's Northeast Conference and placed in D-III without their knowledge.

Mount St. Mary's is D1, Northeast Conference. Same league as LIU, Wagner, FDU.

18-14 last year, but that was with one of the nation's top scorers, Junior Robinson, who will be lost to graduation.

Talk about having no class balance. Everybody on the team except one player last year, was either a Senior or a Freshman.

There is a Mt. St. Mary's that plays D3 in Newburgh, NY. That's probably who Class of 72 was thinking of, but I'm pretty sure we'll be facing the guys from Maryland.

There are two Mt. St, Mary's. It would be helpful to know which one. Since we have been playing D2-3 teams in exhibitions I was hoping it was not the D3 team. Not that the Mount from Md. will do much for our SOS either.

Right. And most complained about the schedule prior to last season as well.

Mount St. Mary's becomes the third #NECMBB team appearing on St. John's non-conference home schedule to go along with Sacred Heart and St. Francis Brooklyn.

Looks like Religion and Pacifist Politics at play here.

Maybe we finish top half of that conference at least. ;) :)

If we lose to any one of them, there will be a couple posters saying we should leave the Big East, and insisting that it makes sense.

I realize that we had a good SOS last year, but how many people know we had a top 10 SOS? It's not just about that, it's about generating buzz. If it were SJ taking on Kentucky at MSG it would create huge buzz. I'm not saying we can't play any cupcakes...I know even the best teams have cupcakes. I would just like to see maybe 2 more games against real opponents that are nationally recognized. Texas, Florida, FSU, Gonzaga, Indiana, Ohio State, etc. Not world beaters but good solid brands in college basketball. We also seem to play down to competition...look at the Molloy game this past season. Hard to get up for no name schools.

We beat Duke in our out of conference schedule last year and were the talk of college basketball for the day. What are you even talking about with buzz? Also, why would these big time teams want to play us? They can come to MSG in one of these tournaments or events, get a split of the revenue, and play a team that will help their resume without us.

Even if the big time teams wouldn't play us, it is still totally the fault of the coaching staff. Just ask (almost) anyone on our site.
