2018/19 Schedule

if Mully does not make the big dance next year it will be an ugly year on this fan board and rightfully so. So, that being said, they still have possible transfers to deal with in our forever revolving door thus more ships to hand out. Get the best talent out there in whatever position. If you don't, it could mean your jobs!

Why have they been playing these games on a Sunday the last few years? Should be on a Saturday. Sunday is family day (and an NFL Sunday). Not to mention our opponents have been less than stellar the past few years.

Good point Bama. No doubt, we should ratchet the competition higher to inject some excitement back into the Holiday Festival and St. John's Hoops.
What the hell are we afraid of?
No cakewalk

Maybe they have a big man we can steal before then. Every other high major picks them clean, so we may as well get in on the action.

Not sure if it was a factor as to when the Holiday Festival would be played this year but I read somewhere that Seton Hall is playing Kentucky ar MSG on Sat Dec 8.

St. John's will host St. Francis (NY) as part of its 2018-19 non-conference schedule

Rothstein;
The 2018-19 college basketball season will be longer than most years. Things start on Nov. 6th and end on April 8th. Selection Sunday will be on March 17th.

Anyone else not impressed so far? Don't get me wrong, I want to have a good OOC record but no one will watch the St. Francis, Sacred Heart, etc. games. Cal? Come on...I'd rather play a few major programs that get eyeballs. Why can't we get a Texas or Michigan...or Gonzaga? Florida State? At least those programs matter and they're familiar brands. I just feel like we schedule too many cupcakes and the pressure is on us not to lose instead of to win. Remember, the Big East is way weaker next year.

Never made sense to me especially at the MSG Holiday Festival scheduling garbage opponents year after year. Imagine St. John's vs. Gonzaga MSG Holiday Festival instead. Seeing the schedule thus far (pretty easy OOC) plus a much weaker Big East...if Ponds stays and we somehow get a mystery big and assistant coach, there's no reason we shouldn't finish top 5 at worst. Sounds like Ponds is leaning towards leaving though...he wants to move his family out and cash in instantly. Delayed gratification is just not a virtue anymore. He clearly needs one more year to be a 1st rounder, but kids get blinded by the money even if it's not the best they can get.

You know we have to go to Duke next year right? Not including we have to play the Big Ten as well.

It does not look that strong on the face of it, though some of that can be attributed to the preseason tournament, which does not appear as strong as in recent years (nothing we can do about that).

However, this past year's schedule looked great, and it wound up being significantly less then what we thought going in (a lot of the teams we played in non-conference did not wind up as strong as we thought they would, when we played them). So, it's too early to tell. Heck, November and December might as well prove to be too early to tell.

Joe3's post is pretty ludicrous given that 4 of the only 7 announced games are against high majors/upper mid majors, if not necessarily world beaters. Three cupcake games so far, including the on campus Tourney game. Memo to Joe. There will be more cupcakes. There may also be more high majors. There's 6 gamest still to be announced, however there's no reason for any team to play 10 OOC games against top 25 teams.

FWIW right now the schedule includes: Duke, Ga Tech, and 2 of Cal/VCU/Temple. Those Legend Classic games are part of a tourney. I am sure it's not hard to understand why St. Johns is not a target participant for some of the bigger tourneys right now. And the Holiday Fest, now that it's one game during finals week, is attractive to exactly 0% of good teams. MSG offers the top teams a lot of other options to play there at better times in better tourneys.

However, re SJU Grad 13's response, I think I read that STJ may be one of the two teams not participating in the Gavitt Games vs. the B1G this year. Creighton, Depaul, Providence and St Johns are the 4 teams who have participated every year so far so it will almost certainly be two of those, but I thought I read that it's pretty certain to be this year.

Duke is 1 game...and who are we playing in the B1G? I mean, why can't we throw in a few teams like Florida, Indiana, etc.? Real brands.

Can you go and research a list of teams that play 6 games per year against the types of schools you want them to play and get back to us. Oh and that list can't include any of the teams that are on the list of schools you want to play, that'd be great.

Big 10 has 14 teams Big East has 10 teams, don't know why they don't just have 10 games per season since the games are all played on home courts and not DHers at more neutral sites (so scheduling problems are minimized). Maybe not enough room on ESPN schedule?

If you were a Syracuse fan you'd be complaining about playing Colgate, Cornell, Oakland, Texas Southern and Toledo last year.;)
