No Big East team needs the league to be good next season more than St. John's. Red Storm may have zero non-conference Quadrant 1 opportunities until 2/2 at Duke. #SJUBB

I really don't understand scheduling Maryland Eastern Shore and Mt. St. Mary, when local schools: Fordham, Manhattan, Hofstra and Iona are available. Give the paying fans a break.

What exactly is our path to an at large bid with this schedule? Are we planning to win 14 or 15 Big East games?[/quote]

24 wins

That sounds right. So let's assume we go, say 10-2 in OOC games not counting Duke. That means at least 14-4 in conference or some conference tourney wins. Sheesh.

To say the least. Very disappointing slate. Especially when we have the most talented roster that we have had in a few years. This would have been the time to play a more ambitious non league schedule in order to properly prepare us for the grind of the Big East, where expectations will be high.

Bad job by our staff IMO.

We still have 1 more game to schedule, correct? We badly need a good opponent for that. Otherwise, we better hope we can get off to a 12-0 (or at least 11-1) start...

Edit: sorry I didn't read higher up. Pathetic. What are they thinking??

Gotta be 11, 11 and 2 or 11, 12 and 1 as far as I can figure. So just last years OOC record combined with Lavin's first Conference season. That would be great. (all numbers OOC, BE, BET)

I think 23-8 in regular season and one BE tourney win gets us in. Maybe 11-2 OOC and 12-6 in conference? Having said that, I agree this schedule is pretty pathetic aside from Duke and means we likely have to finish in top 3 or 4 in BE to get in w/o a whole lot of sweating.

Well 12 conference wins has been top 3 in conference every year since the 10 team conference launched.

Point most are missing about St. John's schedule is a weak non-conference schedule hurts the league because it lowers everyone's RPI. #sjubb

I just don't get it. Last year's OOC worked out really well. The team simply fell apart once LoVett left and it took them a few weeks to figure things out. We would've made the Tournament with only 7 conference wins (at least, we would've been Top 50 in RPI with 7 conference wins).

Now we'll have a BETTER team and we are giving them less chances to earn quality Ws? How many times have we seen a bubble team not make it due to a weak schedule?

Has to be one of the worst OOC schedules for any major conference team.

If we go 12-1 then no big deal.... but why put ourselves in that position? I just don't see the logic in this.

Not sure 24 wins is gonna do it honestly with this garbage OOC schedule and a down year in conference.

Serious question, did the people making this schedule take into account OOC SOS projections? T1 games? I mean, those are the most important things so I would hope so. I don't buy that top teams don't want to play us, because there are a bunch of horrible teams on the schedule that AT LEAST could get replaced with solid mid majors (ranked around 100 rather than 200/300).

I did projections months ago, and now that we know the final schedule this will most likely be 300+ for OOC SOS (out of 351 teams). Last year we had one of the best OOC schedules in the country.

How can this be explained? There is no logical reasoning behind doing such a cupcake schedule, especially next year.

Yes, it will be a down year from last year when we had national champ and Xavier in top 10 much of the year. But there is no way the BE will get less than 3 teams in tourney and as Austour pointed out, 12-6 has always been good for top 3 finish in league. Finish in top 3 and win a game in tourney and they are in w/o question. I also don't think BE will be as down as some are saying, but we will have to see how it plays out.

23 wins before BET and at least 1 win in BET should do it. 21-10 going into the BET in 5th place in conference would be a recipe for disaster but that's likely closer to where they'll be.

I got killed months ago for saying the OOC schedule is terrible. We have 1 real statement game OOC. That's it. Better hope the Big East is really good this year, because we will be dependent on them for decent wins. So basically we have very, very little room for error. Scheduling great programs means you are more likely to lose but at least your RPI is good and you can surprise people and add it to your resume. If you lose, no one is surprised. If you win, you get the national spotlight and a huge resume win.
