2018/19 Schedule

Our scheduling is looking even worse given Seton Hall's OOC. They are not even supposed to be that good next year and they have nationally recognizable and respected programs all over their OOC slate. I wonder if Mullin is scheduling soft knowing this year is make or break for him. Hopefully someone tells him the committee frowns upon weak OOC schedules and it can very well keep us out of the tourney unless we wipe the floor with everyone except Duke in OOC and dominate our conference which is never easy.
Have you heard the AD or president publicly state or imply that this is a make or break year for the Coach ? Have you heard that from a member of the board of trustees ?
Please do share and enlighten us. You repeat same ad nauseum or is it just in your make believe imagination since the progress is not up to your liking.
Barring a scandal , I don’t see Coach being let go early as the school
Can not afford to swallow his contract.
There are some non-confrontational ways to reply to such posts which had zero controversial content to begin with.
Sure , so please answer the question. Who have you heard from , either the school president , AD or a member of the board of trustees , or anyone else high up in the school that this is a make or break year for Coach Mullin ? Thanking you in advance.
Do you need to ask a rocket scientist if a rocket goes fast?
My day didn't start great but that made me laugh.

Full Legends Classic schedule (with regional games).

Something's not right though, as Braziller still said on twitter that we are playing Cal first round. This schedule says we are playing Temple (which, I think, I'd rather do). So, we need some clarity on that, but everything else is official.

EDIT: The official press release says SJU vs. Cal in the first semifinal, which contradicts the bracket page. My guess is that we are playing Cal, because that is what has been widely reported.

Putting this here, because I didn't think it deserved it's own thread.

Jon Rothstein

@JonRothstein

St. John's has the talent to be a top half Big East team, but it needs to be better in close out situations. Lost 10 conference games last season by seven points or less. #SJUBB

I think we did a better job of this once we broke the ice vs. Duke, so maybe that will help going forward. Down the stretch last year, the only wins that did not come down to the end were Marquette (which was still a close game, but I never thought we were in danger), and Georgetown (which required a second half comeback, anyway). We even won a game that we had no rights winning (Butler).

The 11 game losing streak should never have happened, but once we couldn't go back on it, I'm glad that we at least appeared to learn the lessons.

Per JonRothstein, I'd be shocked if the 2018-19 St. John's team's offense evidences the slightest comparison to last year's basically weak offensive team that relied primarily on 1 scorer, frequently double and triple-teamed.
Even without Mustapha, next season's team has far more options, including a likely improved Ponds, Simon and Clark but also Figueroa, Dixon and bulky Keita underneath to muscle some offensive rebounds and improve on our 2nd worst rebounding performance last season.
And with Heron--fuhgeddqaboudit, off the charts in comparison to 2017-18's 2nd worst BEC offensive team.
Let's go Johnnies.

Assuming that I can count, don't we have 1 more non-league game to schedule?
If so, any idea as to who the opponent might be?
I'd like to see one more marquee game on the schedule
But I would expect to see more of a St Leo's type of opponent

Definitely hoping we have a good opponent for the final game. It's going to be a great team and a down Big East year. Give the team a chance to get a good W OOC. @ Duke so far is the only opportunity, which is really strange given how good our OOC was the last few years.

Have other people renewed their tickets yet ? 2nd year in a row I call the school to renew and I get voicemail. Not one person there to answer the phone in the afternoon ?

Scratch that. Melissa called back first thing this morning and was extremely helpful and got my tickets and the extra season tix done and my new ones for my friends as close to our 114 seats as possible so mjmaherjr is now very happy

ESPN with their early season tournament guide.

Legends Classic
Nov. 19-20 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn

Best possible matchup: St. John's Shamorie Ponds vs. VCU's Marcus Evans. Ponds is arguably the best player in the Big East, while Evans was one of the most sought-after transfers in the country when he left Rice two years ago.

Why watch: There's a lot of untapped talent at St. John's and Temple. Neither team has fully lived up to expectations in recent years. For the Red Storm, we'll have a chance to see if the newcomers -- including Mustapha Heron, potentially -- are as good as advertised. Meanwhile, Temple is entering its final season with Fran Dunphy at the helm.

Nov. 19 7 p.m. St. John's vs. Cal ESPN2
9:30 p.m. VCU vs. Temple ESPN3
