Auburn transfer Mustapha Heron is headed to St. John's, he tells me. Will begin summer classes Monday. Believes he will get hardship waiver to play right away. “With the pieces we have, we definitely can be special." #sjubb

As is the case with virtually entire roster, Matt Abdelmassih did the heavy lifting here. His value can't be overstated to the program. #sjubb

"Special" indeed. I can't remember being this excited about a Johnny team in the offseason for a very long time. Coach Mullin can certainly enjoy tonight's game in Oakland while being very happy with the situation in Queens. MH seems very optimistic about the hardship waiver.

Plan is to get the waiver material in ASAP. Confidence Mustapha Heron will be eligible. School may hire a lawyer as well if there is resistance. #subb

@JonRothstein

No one knows if Mustapha Heron will get a waiver to be eligible next season, but if he does St. John’s is a lock Top 25 team. And would have the best roster in the Big East. #SJUBB

No one who has been a fan of this program for any substantial length of time believes he will be granted that waiver.

Who knows, but.....just sayin'.

Maybe because he is a smart kid (which he is) and wants his degree. It is called having options which is a lesson all people should learn. .[/quote]

Maybe, but if so why did he declare for the draft in the first place?

Incredibly great -- and totally unexpected -- news! Feels good to be back in my living room after living the past three months out on the ledge. :)

Because he is a smart kid and there is no downside to declaring without an agent. You potentially get free, objective feedback from the best in the industry which an intelligent person can use to make informed decisions. He made it plain before he ever played a minute of college ball he wanted a degree along with a pro career and I was merely offering my speculation along those lines, hence the use of the word “maybe”.
