2017-18 Transfers

Would he be considered the best player to transfer this year? I know a ton of kids have transferred but I can't remember anyone this good, whether grad transfer or not. Just wondering.
For our needs I would say a kid like Reid Travis is the best transfer this year but Heron is pretty damn good. I would never turn a talent like Heron away but it is a weird fit the way our roster is currently constructed. :)
But we’re we ever in the mix for Reid Travis? Stanford people were hoping he’d return there as of a few weeks ago, but now KY seems to be in his sights.
Didnt Mustapha kind of just fall our way? (I hope!) His mom’s Health issues and his need to be closer to her, plus our past relationship with the kid?
This came out of nowhere—to me anyway.
Like the Figgy gift.
Had no clue about that either!
No, Heron did not "just fall our way." I realize some here have promoted the narrative that the staff doesn't work but it is just not true. They just don't talk about what they do, they just do it. Figueroa is another prime example of their approach. Again, I point to the amount of recruits we have been involved with but one of the strengths of this staff is that they are realistic about our chances, the "where would you go - Kansas or SJU? reality" and therefore have multiple tentacles out for players. Only my perspective, but much is made here about failures, little noise about successes. One last point, IF Heron signs and is eligible (IF), I guarantee we will at some points in the season see a lineup of Ponds, Heron, Figueroa, Simon and Dixon on the court.
I was approaching this from my ignorance. Seemed to come from nowhere. I wasn’t disparaging the Staff. If it happened this would be a great coup, with ‘things’ crystalizing for us, based on the family’s needs and our past relationship with the kid. That’s all I meant.
Yup, I imagined that potential lineup next season as well.
Insane scoring machine that few teams could run with.

P.S. To me that’s serendipitous—a positive confluence of things combining to happen: his need and our past relationship. That’s all I meant.
yep serendipity
or synchronicity (Carl Jung's term) of a meaningful coincidence of two events/items/energies (coming together) that have no causal connection. I believe Abe Lincoln bought a barrel of "stuff:" and therein were Blackstone's commentaries which enable Abe to read - he was not thinking about books being the barrel. (I do not think I am making the point clear, oh well) - let's go Heron! Let's go Red Storm!

Given that he has to be enrolled in his new school to apply for hardship waiver, I would think we'd know where he is going by the end of the weekend, no?
Or sooner
Yeah, I was thinking before 11 p.m. EST tonight. He cancels his other visits, and registers tomorrow. Then we cross fingers.

I know Nevada will be good next year, but I doubt they win 35 games. My saying they will not make the Elite 8 is much more sensible than saying they will 100% make the final four.

Well said, General!

The regular, season record is nore predictable than a deep run in the NCAAs.
Based on NV's roster, they should, barring injuries, have 26- 28 wins by Selection Sunday and get a high seed
Much beyond that, it's up to the hoop gods
Heron - Waterbury CT

UCONN - 56 miles (no bridges)
St. John - 85 miles
Boston College - 125 Miles
U MD - 313 miles
"I don't believe UConn is the best fit academically for me. St. John's is the closest school that is a good fit." A committee that discounts any similar statement should stop pretending that school is important and admit that they are a sham organization.

And of course I'm not just saying this so we can have one of the best five backcourts in the country.

Why don't we ask the person who won $1,250,000 betting that the LV Knights would finish in the NHL Finals at odds of 500 to 1 in Vegas. You think?

Kill joy!

Guys no offense but who cares about Nevada? Their coach will be poached in a second and they're back off the radar in a mid major conference.

Back to Heron...I think having him eligible would give us a decent chance of being top 25 at some point. We were top 15 with a less-skilled team in 2015. If our miracle comes true and he comes and can play immediately then we get Rice on board, I may have to start researching the possibility of divine intervention. If we actually have a legitimately good season (at least make tourney next year) I will be among the happiest on this board.
Someone has used the 100 mile threshold as a requirement for a medical hardship. BC out of that range. That makes me feel better
Well if that's the case then no need to visit them, I can't see him going to Fairfield, and if UConn is out of play.
Then that just leaves SJU. I'm thinking Friday night he'll pick us, or Saturday.

Heron Watch - stay tuned and would not worry even if he took another visit. Originally thought he would start school tomorrow, but sense next week more likely.

"The main reason he chose Pitt was because family friend Barry Rohrsson was on head coach Jamie Dixon’s staff. Since then, Rohrsson has departed Pitt to join the St. John’s staff under new coach Chris Mullin. "

"I’ve known (Rohrsson) since I was 2-years old. There is a comfort level there. When he was at Kentucky, Kentucky was big on the list. When he was at Pitt, Pitt was big on the list.”

"Everything in New York is more physical. The spotlight is on you more. You have to learn to work around the spotlight. If you make a mistake, the spotlight is on you, and if you do well, the spotlight is on you. You can’t get too high or too low. It has to be a balanced attack. That helped my game a lot.”

"Right now, I’m looking to get my degree,” Heron said. “But if I have a great freshman year and it’s the right decision for my family and I have to make a transition to the NBA, then that will be the plan. But either way, I want to get my degree. There are summer classes I could take in the offseason to get my degree. That’s a big part for me and my family.”

Some interesting quotes. Really seems like a mature and responsible kid. Great to read. The rest of the article:http://www.myrecordjournal.com/spor...ind-summer-three-peat-and-college-choice.html

Good enough for me. Thou shall not worry.
After Heron commits to SJU today, what will be the under/over on number of posts asking how long the waiver request process takes and have we heard anything? :)
I would suggest that fans assume the NCAA's waiver decision will be announced in late October or early November. As painful as it may be, begin to accept that there will be no updates all summer long.

I'll be worrying until it's official based on our well-documented difficulty in getting out of the "friend zone".
