2017-18 Transfers

If you're Heron with sights on the NBA, why would you waste another year sitting? Why not go back to the school where you've had success with the hopes of getting drafted in 2019?

Mustapha Heron also has a tentative visit to BC on Saturday, per source.

I wouldn't get too excited about Heron. The NCAA is a sham. Yeah if this was North Carolina, no problem. St. John's? Not so much. Now if Heron is forced to sit the year my guess is he doesn't return to college. Seems like its all or nothing. What do I know, just a guess.
There was no risk to Heron pursuit and it was one of those things you could not pass on. Even if it blows up in your scenario, we are playing with house $$ now that Ponds is returning. One step at a time works for me
Paultzman, if by chance this thing with Heron doesn't work out. Meaning, he doesn't come here at all. Is there any indication that the staff has an opportunity to bring in a grad transfer big? Do they have their eyes on someone in case this totally blows up?

Maybe because he is a smart kid (which he is) and wants his degree. It is called having options which is a lesson all people should learn. One last point, all I have heard is that he is SJU bound but don't for a second think other schools are not aggressively pursuing him. Remember, he was a Rohressen "lock" until he wasn't.

Not that I know of. BC visit “tentative”. In my world don’t worry about that or Fairfield where he would play in front of 500 people in Bridgeport arena. Expect him to commit here & commence waiver ASAP.

Mustapha Heron begins first visit today, “He’s visiting StJohns at 10am.” Will he commit on the spot? “No” “Tomorrow he is meeting with Tyson Wheeler #Fairfield University and he is hoping to go to #BostonCollege on Saturday” per father Bryan Heron

Would think SJU would be more attractive to him than either BC or Fairfield, at least from a basketball perspective.

It only seems logical to visit other area colleges, if only for appearance sake.

Heron has worked out at CA arena many times through the years, played with local AAU programs, RENS & Gauchos for a long time and has many friends in area. Not critical factors, but helpful. He also knows how special this team will be if he gets waiver. I also suspect research for waiver possibility did not just start yesterday.

Exactly or strategically mention them only to cancel. We’ll see.
For our needs I would say a kid like Reid Travis is the best transfer this year but Heron is pretty damn good. I would never turn a talent like Heron away but it is a weird fit the way our roster is currently constructed. :)
It is a weird fit, but luckily we have three guys on the staff who could waltz right by security at the Warriors' training facility over the next two weeks to observe what they do. The biggest issue would be Clark isn't built for the Draymond role in the offense, so I guess it would be Simon.

How do you see our chances vs. UCONN and Hurley - proximity to home, plus a program with championships?
After Heron commits to SJU today, what will be the under/over on number of posts asking how long the waiver request process takes and have we heard anything? :)
Hi Paultz. That would have to be simultaneous with Mustapha’s committing! Such is the angst of our world.
Let me start the ball: a poster mentioned maybe around ‘September’ for a hardship decision. I dunno if that’s right or wrong. Here we go. Lol...

So your only really talking about UCONN, BC and us.But it aint over till its over.

Simon is perfect fit for draymond role. Rebound, defend, pass, make plays! Him, Figueroa, and Dixon as our 4,5 & 6 scoring options would be insane.

Uconn doesn't sound to be in the mix

That occurred to me as well. The family sees this as a serious need for the mom is my guess. I wonder if Auburn could help by supporting Heron’s bid for the hardship being granted?

Pearl is happy his big man came back and he has depth at the swingman-ish positions. And I think Heron was a good kid for him while there. He should help the kid out.

Question about Heron. Would he be considered the best player to transfer this year? I know a ton of kids have transferred but I can't remember anyone this good, whether grad transfer or not. Just wondering.
But we’re we ever in the mix for Reid Travis? Stanford people were hoping he’d return there as of a few weeks ago, but now KY seems to be in his sights.
Didnt Mustapha kind of just fall our way? (I hope!) His mom’s Health issues and his need to be closer to her, plus our past relationship with the kid?
This came out of nowhere—to me anyway.
Like the Figgy gift.
Had no clue about that either!
