2017-18 Transfers

Keita tweeted that zipped mouth emoji again like he did yesterday, that seems good. Also a cryptic tweet from Matt with NYC skyline that I didn't quite understand but i assume is positive.
Since it's official visit, maybe they are laying out red carpet with trip to Manhattan, nice steakhouse etc.
That makes sense. Thanks RedStormNC.
Hoping for an announcement soon.

BTW may want to start a separate Heron thread under 2018 recruits.
a) Louie;
b) CM;
c) President Bobby;
d) Mitch;
e) All the above.
How about f) none of the above ? Think inference was Matt A.
Funny, I thought Matt was already following him.
NP it all works!
Well way I figure it is a)louie-too old for twitter, b) CM doesn't strike me as type to follow kids on twitter, c) Pres Bobby more important things to do, d) Mitch doesn't do anything that anyone seems to know of, hence f) none of the above is my answer. ;)

Gotta laugh.

None of us know details, but I just can't see how he gets hardship waiver to play this season.

Doesn't seem mothers health issue just happened recently. If he got drafted/stayed in draft, he would not be playing close to home either (like Auburn).

If he got drafted, he'd be able to move her to his new city and see her on off days.

This is a crap shoot. No idea how this gets decided.
The NCAA for years gave out ‘hardship transfers’ like treats st $ Stores.
Recently, they’ve been inconsistent and Scrooge-like.
In March 2015, the NCAA turned down a football player’s request to play immediately at Tulsa so his dad, suffering from cancer, could see him play.
About 1 1/2 years later, the NCAA granted ‘hardship’ to a Tennessee-Chattanooga player for his dad’s ‘personal health’ issues.
I’m thinking that Heron—a very good student— with a mom dealing with clear health issues, might get a favorable review from an institution about to grant immediate eligibility in 2019 to athletes with GPA’s of 3.0 - 3.3.
Of course, I could be delusional.
Let’s go Johnnies.

Mustapha Heron begins his official visit to @StJohnsBBall at 9 a.m. At this point it's his only visit and I expect him to commit there during his visit.

Question about Heron. Would he be considered the best player to transfer this year? I know a ton of kids have transferred but I can't remember anyone this good, whether grad transfer or not. Just wondering.

After Heron commits to SJU today, what will be the under/over on number of posts asking how long the waiver request process takes and have we heard anything? :)

For our needs I would say a kid like Reid Travis is the best transfer this year but Heron is pretty damn good. I would never turn a talent like Heron away but it is a weird fit the way our roster is currently constructed. :)

I was just about to write Reid Travis is probably the top guy especially since he is immediately eligible.

This is probably the first time I have beat you to posting a tweet I assume you are in pasta and gelato coma.

Nova and Duke couldn’t stop Ponds alone last year. If Heron gets eligible, we will be filthy and deep at all spots except center. While it’s nice to have a backup center, or another big, this could be a game-changer for us in the backcourt.

I wouldn't get too excited about Heron. The NCAA is a sham. Yeah if this was North Carolina, no problem. St. John's? Not so much. Now if Heron is forced to sit the year my guess is he doesn't return to college. Seems like its all or nothing. What do I know, just a guess.

Mustapha Heron begins first visit today, “He’s visiting StJohns at 10am.” Will he commit on the spot? “No” “Tomorrow he is meeting with Tyson Wheeler #Fairfield University and he is hoping to go to #BostonCollege on Saturday” per father Bryan Heron

It would really signal a reversal of fortune for St. Johns Basketball if by some chance the NCAA, in it's advanced wisdom, clears Heron to play this year. Just not what we have been use to as SJU fans recently.

Enjoy. We were in Italy a few weeks ago and can't wait to go back (Krakrow, Paris and multiple trips back to the US first)!

There was no risk to Heron pursuit and it was one of those things you could not pass on. Even if it blows up in your scenario, we are playing with house $$ now that Ponds is returning. One step at a time works for me

Paultz, completely agree. No risk for SJU. I just have no faith that the NCAA does the right thing for a kid in this type of extenuating circumstance. They love to arbitrarily enforce rules for some and not others. IMO they should (almost always) do what is in the best interest of the kid. It seems provable and logical that this kid has a case.
