2017-18 Transfers

If that 3.0 GPA immediate eligibility rule actually passes, and I'm skeptical that it would, I'd be very surprised if that went into effect for this upcoming season as it would have completely changed how teams would have approached this past recruiting year. Would think 2019-20 at the earliest. I think we're looking at hardship waiver or bust.
If it happens and he gets the hardship waiver starting lineup next season:

Ponds
Simon
Heron
Clark
Keita

With Dixon and Figueroa first two off the bench. On paper, could be best looking team we've had in close to 20 years.
Keita starting not at all as impressive as Figueroa starting.
Small ball wins.

Couple of nuggets on MH from the AU b'ball site......"member of the SEC Community Service Team … very hard worker … very productive player … physically mature … complete game offensively … will make plays offensively and defensively … unstoppable getting to the rim … works extremely hard at his game … left-handed." Also, his brother plays for UMass, kinda' close to home. Biggest question is who gets to wear #5? MH or JS?

20 is available.

Looks like we are being built like a collegiate Houston Rockets. A team that is versatile, can switch on everything on the perimeter. Hopefully we aren't breaking records for consecutive missed 3 pointers. Lol With Heron we would have 3 guards that can get to the basket whenever they want, Ponds and Simon showed that frequently last year. Hoping Dixon can give us another 3 point threat, as Marvin was the only consistent 3 point shooter, Trimble was a bit streaky but still knocked some down.

On cue
Per Zach B
Auburn transfer Mustapha Heron has his release, I'm told. Will visit St. John's tomorrow. #sjubb

Ponds Heron Simon Dixon Figueroa Trimble Williams is just ridiculous depth. We could win the Big East. Trimble and Williams could grow at their own pace, maybe even a redshirt for GW. Heron Simon Ponds are all plus rebounders for their positions, Figueroa could join that group. Dixon is being slept on IMO, he will be eager to prove himself. Practice should be fierce and that will benefit all these guys. Lineup of Ponds Simon Heron Figueroa Clark should be lethal. Dixon, Keita, Trimble would provide actual depth; thats a strong bench. We would threaten triple digits every night. Kudos to the staff they are making moves im impressed. Even if he sits.

Wasn't Slice our "in" with him out of HS?
Would be pretty ironic if Matt could get a transfer recruit that was originally linked to Slice.
Dunno if true. But I think a poster commented y’day that Slice was ‘helping’ on this.
That post by 72 was either the dumbest or funniest post of the year. Depends on his intentions which were not obvious.

Oh i thought it was another poster, but couldn't recall...maybe simplyred...?
There was no emoji, so fooled me.
Actually wouldn't care who helped on this kid, if he transfers here.
To paraphrase Bogey: "...this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship..."

Or would it be Ponds and him as 1A, and 1B? Both are great college players just interested in where Heron would fit in the pecking order.
From what I've researched, he had a great freshman year shooting something like 42% from 3 but then dropped a bit to around 35% (could be wrong just ballpark) his sophomore year. He's known to be more athletic and better defensively than Ponds from what I hear. Ponds may be the craftier scorer. Heron maybe more balanced on both sides.
A very nice “problem” to have!
80% FT as well, known for getting to stripe. Also scored 20+ in 7 games last year.
On a team where the other 2/3 of the 3 guard offense finished above him in all conference voting, and also tested the waters. Not a one man team, not a volume shooter. Not meant to disparage Shamori by the way, he had no choice, just to point out that head to head comps might not be that appropriate. But on the other side entire teams couldn't focus on him either.

Agree Tom. I expect Ponds, Heron, and Figgy to be knock-down scorers, with Simon, Clark & Dixon in the middle of it all year & Keita hauling down our occasional rebound(!).
Actually think that IF Heron is immediately eligible, those first 7 will log the minutes--it won't matter 'who' starts.
Then, we'd have Trimble, Williams, Roberts, and Earlington for necessary spot time.

It sounds like Mullin doesn't even need to be there for the visit, but is he expected to be around?

You may be right, WIndy City.
The article by an NCAA Media contact mentioned 2019-20 to be the effective date. The other from AL.com said it'd be voted on this June and effective Oct. 15th--implying 'this year'.

Thought #20 was retired in honor of ... Marcus LoVett. :silly:

After Freudenberg & ML, may be time to retire it. :)
