2017-18 Transfers

Did they change the rule that only allowed for a one time testing of the waters for the draft and being eligible to return to school?
Yes. They can now declare multiple times, so long as they do not hire an agent.
My point is, it might be a challenge to favorably impress NBA people, following a year in practice and not in-game competition.
But who knows.
I thought the new rule was you can declare and return to school one time, then the next time you declare you must stay in the draft. That is why it would make sense for every junior or 3rd year player with aspirations to declare because there is no penalty.
That was the old rule. New rule is you can do it as many times as you want as long as you don't hire and agent.

I'm enjoying reading the UConn Boneyard fools breaking down the West Haven to Storrs commute vs. the West Haven to Queens commute on google maps while simultaneously trying to convince themselves that they don't want Heron.
Now Zags says visit may happen as soon as today. News rolling in fast and furiously. Somebody clean the place up quick!
We like it when it’s fast and furious news that’s good for us!

This may be mixing apples and oranges, but I think the NCAA will consider new transfer rules changes for Div 1 athletes (basketball and football in particular) this June.
The new rule will permit student athletes with a GPA of 3.0 - 3.3 to transfer and be immediately eligible to play and the rule will eliminate the original school’s capability to restrict where the student athlete may transfer to.
It’s supposed to go into effect by October 15th.
Obviously unaware what Mustapha’s GPA is—but this may also be an option...if the NCAA goes through with it.

Was reading some Auburn forums last night and I believe several fans said he was a very good student and that his mother is adamant about wanting him to do well in school.

Yes thanks Mike. I vaguely recall reading on some thread that he was a good student, but wasn’t sure.

Heron was not on the Coach All SEC teams, however he was AP 2nd Team:

AP First Team All-SEC
Bryce Brown, Auburn
Daryl Macon, Arkansas
Yante Maten, Georgia (unanimous)
Collin Sexton, Alabama
Grant Williams, Tennessee (unanimous)

AP Second Team All-SEC
Jaylen Barford, Arkansas
Chris Chiozza, Florida
Jared Harper, Auburn
Mustapha Heron, Auburn
Kassius Robertson, Missouri

Really can't wait for this to finalize! Nearly all the players on that list are leaving for the NBA/graduating. And unlike most years, the SEC was actually really strong this year.

The funniest part about reading the Boneyard: apparently they can simultaneously be "very close" to NYC as they call themselves the 6th borough...and also "very far" from NYC. Guess geography depends on the situation at hand.
Actually heard about Heron to SJU last Friday from AAU guy in Ct. where I live. Subsequently heard same from some NYC hoops folks. The common denominator was Heron could arrive Friday. Don’t kill messenger if this is off a bit.
Wasn't Slice our "in" with him out of HS?

Would be pretty ironic if Matt could get a transfer recruit that was originally linked to Slice.

Dunno if true. But I think a poster commented y’day that Slice was ‘helping’ on this.

Would be like a divorced husband trying to get ex wife laid. Not buying it.

Gotta laugh.

Not for anything, but nice to see Heron averaged 6.1 and 5.3 rebounds per contest in his 2 years form the guard spot.

Fingers crossed.

Per Ellie Lieberman, Mustapha Heron will receive his official release from Auburn today and then start his official visit to St. John’s, per his father Bryan Heron. He is yet to set up any other visits.
