2017-18 Transfers
Heron had two successful years at Auburn, so the HS ranking isn't as relevant as it was two years ago, but looking at 247:

https://247sports.com/Player/Mustapha-Heron-28720/high-school-63639

Crystal Ball had him 73% going to SJU, 27% to Mississippi State. He was 5 stars and ranked #22 nationally.

I know he isn't a recruit anymore, but still, he would be SJU's highest ranked recruit since at least the early 2000s. Rysheed Jordan was ranked #31.

Can't stop refreshing Redmen.
Yes, I keep logging back in also! Unbelievable buzz!
Paultzman is the master of the understated!
“Interesting item”?!!!?
Gotta laugh.
G-Simon
G-Ponds
G-Heron
F-Clark
C-Keita

Bench:
F- Figueroa
G- Dixon
G-Trimble
G-Greg Williams
F-Roberts
F-Earlington

WOW.... Would have to think someone (maybe Trimble) would transfer. Simon also can be used as a SF as well, but the amount of talent at the guard position is overwhelming. Still very underwhelming in the front court, but this would hafta be the best roster we've had since the early 2000s, no?
Keita over Figueroa?
Are you mad?
Maybe Mullin has been playing the long game all along, benching Yakwe so that he walked and clogged up UConn's last open scholly?
If so,he’s a chess master!

Yeah Tom, I blinked at that as well.
Guess we’ll need ‘somebody’ under the boards!
But, I wouldn’t worry.
Figgy will get plenty of minutes to dazzle.
Man, if this transpires and both Ponds and Heron play next season—our guard/wing depth will be off the charts.

Still think it will take a miracle to happen and doubt both wishes can come true (MH commitment and immediately eligible plus Ponds coming back), but if the stars align, that gives us 2 huge guards in Simon and Heron and if everyone can stay healthy (another factor) I don't see how the team wouldn't be in the top 25 at least briefly making an appearance. With Heron and Ponds the OOC slate is weak (Georgia Tech will be one of our biggest tests and they are supposed to be bad next season). The Big East will be significantly down especially with Nova's studs putting on huge shows at the combine. Does St. John's then have the expectation of being a top 3 team in the Big East if not better? I would think so. Nevermind, let's ask that if the miracle occurs first.

Should be interesting to see how this plays out. Heron reminds me of Donovan Mitchell. Yea I said it.

Always fun to speculate but I am not getting too excited about next season until I hear that either Shamorie is returning or Heron has committed and been declared immediately eligible.
If he wants to go to UCONN, I expect they'll find a way to free up a roster spot. Seems like both this one and Shamorie decision can still go either way. Hoping for the best.
If they did land Heron -- and I sure as hell hope they don't -- would be good karma if they cut Wilson to find a spot for him.

Even if Heron isn’t immediately eligible, if he sits out and plays in 2019-20–that might attract some of our top 2019 targets.
And I think if he sits out, he’ll stay and play to reestablish his creds with NBA evaluators.

Would've felt a lot better if Danny Hurley was not around. And with Heron in West Haven, that's a lot closer to his mother then NYC

See fordham96’s earlier post and Paultzman referencing Zach B for calming influences.
Agree it’ll be pins and needles until it’s done—but seems promising for St. John’s.
Let’s hope.

Chicago, I've been a Johnnies fan too long to do anything but hope for the best while fearing the worst. Hopefully this time something will work out in our favor.
Wasn't Heron's father close with Slice? Given that, I'm not so sure he'd want to commit to Mullin at this point. Since he's a Waterbury kid, UConn might be the more attractive stop for him if he decides to transfer ... but love to land him.
St. Johns is not that much further from Waterbury then the UConn campus

The way I see it is that we are in a slightly better situation then yesterday. Heron announced he was transferring so he is available and we are one of the schools he is considering. Whether he plays this season or next a transfer to SJU would be a positive. Ponds was going to announce a decision tomorrow regardless.

As was I. And while I am optimistic on Heron transferring to SJU given Fordham & Paultzman's high level of confidence, I am not overly optimistic that he will be eligible to play w/o sitting a year. If he can't play immediately and Shamorie leaves with no immediate backfill, we are likely looking at another year w/o dancing.

I concur that Heron getting waiver is not to be assumed and share your prognosis on coming season in that event. (With Ponds leaving)

FWIW I read 6 pages of the Boneyard. And there aren’t posters saying he is going to UCONN. Some are hoping. But Chief has not chimed in , their maven.
