2017-18 Transfers

If he wants to go to UCONN, I expect they'll find a way to free up a roster spot. Seems like both this one and Shamorie decision can still go either way. Hoping for the best.

Rumble in the Garden
“But family medical hardship waivers for immediate eligibility, abused readily by homesick transfers, were eliminated in 2015. Despite that fact, Wichita State is currently applying for a hardship waiver for a transfer from West Virginia to be able to play immediately.

The Shockers’ reasoning for believing the waiver has a chance to be granted is unknown — the stated “his support system is closer” statement for the appeal sounds no stronger than any rationale used pre-2015. But if the NCAA is somehow tweaking those hardship rules, the St. John’s staff (or the staff at another nearby D-1 college) could be the beneficiary.”

Respectfully disagree on last point.

I can tell you that the UCONN stuff is being floated to indicate that is is not a done deal even though it really is a done deal. Told it is SJU...

Paultz, I'm very happy to be wrong here.

G-Simon
G-Ponds
G-Heron
F-Clark
C-Keita

Bench:
F- Figueroa
G- Dixon
G-Trimble
G-Greg Williams
F-Roberts
F-Earlington

WOW.... Would have to think someone (maybe Trimble) would transfer. Simon also can be used as a SF as well, but the amount of talent at the guard position is overwhelming. Still very underwhelming in the front court, but this would hafta be the best roster we've had since the early 2000s, no?

Color me stunned that this ‘interesting item’ is so stunning!
The potential likelihood—according to fordham96–that Heron may transfer to St. John’s, combined with the ‘possibility’ he may be the exception to the NCAA’s hardball interpretation of its ‘hardship’ rule, along with Shamorie’s imminent decision and, yeah, the ‘possibility’ he’ll return—well it’s beyond ‘stunning’ and borders the ‘unbelievable’ and the ‘incredible’.
Wow.

And if Ponds stays, rent a rocket ship because world may end. :) Not the way things usually work out for SJU. Lol

Nope! Not usually! Lol

These Uconn fans are annoying and they make me sick. Even the Uconn players think he’s coming.

I hate these waiting games.

Someone may transfer because this is the ‘transfer era’, but odds would be high that all of Simon, Ponds, Heron would be gone after next year—with Simon potentially a Grad Transfer—and the guard / wing position would be in transition, with Wright and Caraher ready to play.
“We shall see.”

Hopefully, we get the prize for once, and not Darth Vader’s team.

Love all the buzz. sju grad 13. I've read their boneyard board and don't get that feeling at all that they think he is coming. They hope , even though a bunch said why would they want him lol.

Yeah I've been reading the Boneyard posts and they don't seem that confident this time. Between that and the posts on this board, I'm optimistic.

Per Zach B
All signs point to St John's being involved with Auburn transfer Mustapha Heron. Recruited him out of HS. Big talent #sjubb

Heron had two successful years at Auburn, so the HS ranking isn't as relevant as it was two years ago, but looking at 247:

https://247sports.com/Player/Mustapha-Heron-28720/high-school-63639

Crystal Ball had him 73% going to SJU, 27% to Mississippi State. He was 5 stars and ranked #22 nationally.

I know he isn't a recruit anymore, but still, he would be SJU's highest ranked recruit since at least the early 2000s. Rysheed Jordan was ranked #31.

Can't stop refreshing Redmen.
