2017-18 Transfers
Who?
Saw this tweet yesterday & perhaps he did not get waiver decision, but circumstances similar & he must have applied, knowing of an option

“Wichita State will appeal to the NCAA to allow Teddy Allen (@JussHoopTeddy) to play immediately.
They will appeal that his support system is in Omaha, NE - which is a lot closer to Wichita than Morgantown.
He lost his mother to cancer the spring he signed with WVU.
#watchus”

Witchita State player just got one
Got one or applied for one? As far as I know he has only applied. Assuming you are talking about Teddy Allen who transferred from WVU to Wichita St. I don't believe the NCAA has granted his request yet.

You are correct & just noted that above

Word is he is willing to transfer & sit out in event of waiver denial.

When I think of any SJU involvement in an NCAA appeal, memories of the Orlando Sanchez NCAA “Death March” come to mind. :)

Another reason the pursuit of Heron makes sense. Let's take best case scenario with Ponds and he comes back but Heron is denied his immediate eligibility. Ponds most certainly is gone in 19/20 and Heron will be eligible.

Would actually prefer this scenario TBH. I know Ponds and Heron on the same team together would be a sight to behold, but having Heron suit up in 19/20 would mean there would be no drop off after losing Ponds this season, plus potentially attract some of the '19 recruits we're in the hunt for. I know this is getting ahead of ourselves but what the heck.

Wasn't Heron's father close with Slice? Given that, I'm not so sure he'd want to commit to Mullin at this point. Since he's a Waterbury kid, UConn might be the more attractive stop for him if he decides to transfer ... but love to land him.

All kinds of issues with this, including the following:

1. As far as we are all aware, there is no recent precedent for an immediately eligible hardship waiver being granted and it's possible the rules don't even allow.
2. Is a player of Heron's caliber really going to sit a year if he doesn't get a waiver?
3. If he commits and sits out, where does that leave this season's roster in what we all agree is a make or break year? With our history of depth issues, we're going to have 3 guys in warm-up suits at the end of the bench?
4. Wouldn't UConn be a likelier destination if goal is for him mom to get to see him play as much as possible? I know West Haven isn't around the corner from UConn but still 20 minutes closer than Queens.

Stunning rumor. No clue if this mean Ponds is opting to stay in, but very curious Mustupha is opting to return to college.
Just blinked eyes open, with but 1 chug of Kor-fee.
Is this buzz for real? Is Heron linked to St. John’s and not—forgive me—UCONN?

This is unreal. Talk about changing the entire perception of this offseason.

This isn’t a dream? Wonder what it means regarding Shamorie? And no word about ‘immediate’ eligibility or sitting out I guess?

Told he will apply for waiver to play immediately & if that outcome is unsuccessful he is prepared to sit a year. We’ll have to wait until that determination is made. When that is, who knows.

Mattc, I would go for it all next year. If Ponds and Heron are on the floor at the same time, then Mullin can play his Run P(onds), H(eron), S(imon). Ok, that needs work. But those three, plus Clark and a big, would be really good. Especially in a down year in the BE.

Yes, getting ahead of ourselves. But I would love to see that.

Stunning ‘news’!
A ‘done deal’ with St. John’s?
Will he actually sit our if denied immediate eligibility?
That would be doubly stunning.

I hear ya, would just prefer it the other way. I'd like knowing we have Heron in the bank for 19/20, which I really believe would help us in recruiting. As much as I'd love to go for it this season, I'd prefer knowing there's some stability heading into the season after.

Wow, thanks Paultz! An incredible ‘interesting item’!
Also stunned, we’re his chosen option and not Darth Vader’s school in his home state!

Agree. I would think fielding a team with Shamorie, Heron, Simon, Clark and company would give SJU the kind of buzz we haven't had for a while and make us a very attractive destination for our 2019 target recruits. Next 24 hours or so certainly packed with suspense.
