I dunno. Can’t wait for LJ forever and this kid can play. I trust the staff here. To me, the greater good of SJU comes first and it’s not like we have had the luxury of having been at the top every year. We are just starting to claw our way back. Would love LJ back but it’s already almost May.

Not worried about it. It’s what he’s capable of with good coaching im concerned about. This kid is versatile and we have seen how kids improve under mike Anderson. I’m most concerned with losing LJ and not having a guy like Perez in his stead. I want the best chance of winning this season.

Was injury a factor in his poorer shooting? He played in far fewer games, even including the COVID impact and started in 5 fewer.
Also, isn't he a sit one, play two--unless the NCAA allows one freebie transfer for next season?

Perez as rule now stands would sit out a year.

Oops my bad. Was thinking he was an immediate guy. There goes my argument.

Sorry but not a fan of these quotes

“In a lot of ways, I had to develop a pro mindset,” Perez said. I played with a lot of people that are in the NBA right now. Thanks to coach Munch [Williams] and his AAU style, he developed a lot of pros. I developed the pro mindset where I’m always in the gym, I’m always working out as well and trying to take my game to the next level.”

I still think LJ comes back, Brazilier says he will most likely come back also, but the McGriff rumors are still there, I just don’t see him fitting in and getting playing time with Posh, Dunn, Williams, and Wusu, would you take a flip of McGriff and Perez, absolutely! Now could it also be LJ leaving, sure could, but still think we see LJ back next year.

LJ coming back next year is best case scenario. McGriff Im fine with. He very well could be better than we know . Only coaching staff knows that part. No harm in having a pure pg like him on roster especially with out existing depth and Dunn a senior.

Agree that I don’t see McGriff playing unless there is an injury to Dunn or Posh. Just no pt available at present for him. Perez > McGriff and would help balance the classes as we will only have 1 sophomore this season in Champagne. Perez sitting out a year would be just fine. Perez with immediate eligibility is a roster headache.

Yes, since they've put off debate and vote on changes to transfer rule until 2021. Of course since he's from the Bronx could he claim a hardship?

Jose Perez tells me that he speaks with assistant coach Van Macon on a "consistent basis".
All 13 runways are currently occupied, but this definitely sounds like a holding pattern and he's just waiting for clearance to land.
25% from 3 worries me
I can't claim to have watched any Gardner-Webb games last year but looking at those stats my hypothesis is that he had a great freshman season and then perhaps became the "main guy" his sophomore year and was less efficient as he saw more attention from defenses and got more shots. Similar to LJ last season for us (except LJ was much better from 3)

I'm not overly worried if he somehow ends up here because I don't think a guy who got extra attention from defenders in the Big South Conference would be as much of a factor in our league. I'm not saying he couldn't hang with the talent or be an effective contributer but hopefully a guy like Perez would be 3rd or 4th banana for a middle-of-the-pack Big East team.
