Around the Big East

To be fair, no team came close to beating them in that tournament (or last years) so a miracle doesn’t seem accurate. Do I agree that they aren’t as good as last year, yes. But I’m not ready to say they aren’t a title contender again.

Also, Karaban is a lock for all conference
Karaban isn't even the best player on his team. AJ, Kalkbrenner, Dixon, Jones and Conwell/Freemantle will round out the All-Conference team.
BTW, a team winning the tournament having finished 5th is their conference is a miracle.

UConn's got their top 3 guys shooting 38% or better from three. No one in our starting lineup is doing better than 33%. If we don't guard the three point line better, we can get beat good. ... I do think we'll improve by then but they're definitely a contender.

They entered the big east tournament that year as the 11th ranked team in the country 😂

A top 15 team winning the tournament isn’t a miracle. That is absurd. They finished tied for 4th in the conference and three really good teams were above them that year

He and Stevie Mitchell are affirmation of college hoops being a guards game;

Watched Marquette beat a very good underrated Maryland team at Maryland and then last nights impressive win vs #6 Purdue who is also very good. Marquette will wear you down and their passing and movement without the ball is awesome. Kam of course does it all and is All American material.

Have you seen who they beat? They finished 5th in the conference 2 years ago and pulled a miracle to win it all. They had 4 of their starters drafted into the NBA last season. They returned only Karaban, who won't even be All-Conference this season. Diary this post for mid-March.
I remember 2 years ago when they lost sanogo and jackson and hawkins and everyone said, "Uconn lost too many players. They have no shot this year" And they went on to have the most dominant tourny run in ncaa history.

It doesnt matter who they lose year to year. They are a factory w/ the best coach in the world.

They will 3peat this year and this will go on and on.

Name your odds. You're all gung ho about their current ranking. Guess where they were ranked in the Top 25 preseason AP and Coaches poll for the 2022//23 year, the same year they won it all? They weren't.

I am not sure what your point (I for one am on record that pre-season polls mean nothing). You called UConn’s winning of the National Title a miracle. Another poster pointed out they were ranked (I believe in the top ten) going into the Tournament making it not a miracle. And now you bring the preseason up. Still not a miracle. NC State in 1983 was a miracle, some might say that the Danny (Manning) and the Miracles 1988 Kansas team win was a Miracle but the 2023 UConn team was not.

Well you are correct in them not being ranked in the two mentioned preseason polls but they were ranked (No. 25) in the AP poll in Week 2 which is the first poll of the season and never dropped out. In the Coaches poll, in Week 3, the second poll of the season, they were ranked 22 and never dropped out. Again, not a miracle they won unless they won it on a miracle play which they did not.

Finishing 5th in your conference and going on to win the National Championship is, to me, a miracle. But that's just me. I'd think it's safe to bet that has only happened once, ever.

Don’t bet it! Arizona ‘97 finished 5th in the pac12. UConn finished tied for 4th.
Still remember that as it was only time I ever had a big score in a March Madness pool lol. My mistake I was thinking of the 2001 tourney where Zona lost to Duke in the final.

Tied for 4th, 4th seed in the BE Tourny lost in Semi’s to No. 1 seed Marquette. Ranked 10th (AP) and 12th (Coaches) poll going into the National tournament. Hard to be a miracle when ranked that high going into the tournament. 4th place finish in conference while ranked 10th and 12th just shows how tough and competitive overall the BE was that year.

Other teams who have finished fourth or worst in their Conference who have gone on to win the National Title include Nova (1984/85 4th and unranked) Arizona (1996/97, fifth and ranked 15th), UConn (2010/11, tied for 9th, yet ranked).

No one looked at UCONN as a Cinderella going into the tournament two years ago, that's for sure. Wouldn't be surprised if they were better than 10th or 12th from the oddsmakers going into the tournament but not smart enough to look that up lol...

Not to mention they won 6 straight NCAA T games by double digits. Miracle I think not (only one person on the planet thinks so and he just so happens to post on this site 🤣).
