I’m thinking between us, UCONN and a sizzling Xavier, the BET is going to be tough and vey exciting.
I will always believe that team was the best ever team to not win a nattyI think we got an overall 4 seed in 85, putting us on the same side as Georgetown, the only team imo, that we couldn’t beat.
I think that was the year before (13-14). That was easily Lavin's worst coaching job. That team should have sailed into the NCAA tournament with its talent/roster. If we beat Providence, we probably had a shot b/c I think we were a 1 seed in the NIT that season. We went down early to Providence in the BE tourney game, made a roaring comeback, and then Sampson missed a bunny down the stretch in a huge spot. I was sitting courtside that game, across from our bench, and saw firsthand when Obekpa refused to go back into the game. They didn’t destroy us. Didn’t Jakar Sampson miss a bunny that would have either tied or won the game for us??
Got it. Thanks for the clarification. I agree , that year was absolutely Lavin’s worst coaching job. That team had a lot of talent.I think that was the year before (13-14). I'm talking about 14-15 when we made the dance, and Obekpa screwed us by not being allowed to play against San Diego State in the 8/9 game. We played Providence in the 4/5 in the Big East, and I think they absolutely destroyed us.
against UCONN, and celebrate in front of Hurley. It’s hard to beat us 1 time. That’s why we will be winning next Saturday
I was at that 14-15 game, yes it was not close.I think that was the year before (13-14). That was easily Lavin's worst coaching job. Triple OT.Gonna be fun to watch the games Thursday as long as we take care of business first. if nova wins Wednesday, the rubber match for Nova/uconn should be fun both their matchups were close. Marquette/X will be a war too
1999 duke gotta be up there. Elton brand was an absolute beast, Shane battier was a role player on offense, Corey maggette coming off the bench and they lost 2 games by a combined 5 points all season, including to an excellent UConn team who had to play near perfect to beat Duke.I will always believe that team was the best ever team to not win a natty
We would have beaten VILLANOVA 10 times that year! As mentioned they just didn’t match up well against us! On the other hand we did not match up well against Georgetown! Thompson had Louie’s number! The 3 best teams in America that year were Georgetown, St Johns, and possibly Villanova in that order! Some might recall that in 1985 we beat eventual champion Villanova 3x. It was just a bad matchup for Nova. Our problem was G’Town not beating Nova.

They don't win on shooting...they win on GUTS. I can't remember a guttier team in all the years I've been watching them.I can’t take dumb takes. Watching the “Field of 68” podcast. While they gave St. John’s plenty of complements, they also have the Yukon fool who just can’t believe they win playing like they do.
Then, Jeff Goodman stated “St. John’s can’t win 6 games in a row in the Tournament because of the way they shoot the ball”. We might not win 6 games in a row but this team already has a 10 game win streak and is currently on a 6 game streak after losing to Villanova. So, yeah defense travels and you can win games because of it. The team has also done just enough shooting wise to get Wins.

And I'm not entirely sure Georgetown beats UNLV either.Well, as great as the 85 team was, they weren't even the best team that year that failed to win a championship.
Bingo…we could lose, but we are better than UCONN or MQI thought the same thing when I started hearing the “Yukon is back” after beating the likes of Georgetown, Marquette and Seton Hall. Our backcourt and defense killed them with pressure. That shouldn’t change. I’d rather be us than them if we rematch with them. Kemba Walker is not walking through that door. It’s just a bad matchup for the Yukon. It’s been very enjoyable.
Brand should have come to St Johns with the rest of that Riverside Hawks team, but last minute switch to Duke IIRC1999 duke gotta be up there.
