2025 BIG EAST TOURNAMENT

It’s not a myth. Those #s are heavily skewed by dominant teams beating inferior teams — like 2024 UConn and DePaul. They often matchup in the first rounds of the conference tournament.

When teams are in the same ballpark is when it becomes difficult. The losing team usually gets a leg up because they know what they have to change.
I agree w your conclusion, but this team seems to constantly overcome history and adversity.

This may be naive, but I think a big factor in holding Deivon out was to give Marquette a completely different look for the semifinal matchup. It’s very hard to beat a team 3x in a season.

BTW how good was Kadary with Stevie Mitchell all over him? That’s one of the best defender’s in the country. If Mitchell stripped any more, Classof2010 would be throwing dollar bills at him.
Here we go again. The old "Its hard to beat a team 3 times in one season" nonsense.

I am not even posting the stats anymore to prove this wrong. Some folks will believe this false stat no matter what.

I guess that is the downside of having such a dominant season.

It’s too bad that Villanova and Creighton is on the other side of the bracket. 😉😁

Its not just college hoops. NFL too you beat a team a 3rd time like 65% of the time.

But again, folks have that myth ingrained in their head and they cant accept the truth.

Re UConn, imo they have enough pieces to make BE Finals, not facing any physical, aggressive defensive teams until they would play the Johnnies. That matchup would really a great watch w SJU prevailing of course.

I think we got an overall 4 seed in 85, putting us on the same side as Georgetown, the only team imo, that we couldn’t beat.

Agree to disagree but of course it’s skewed by better teams. My whole point is playing a team a third time or not has nothing to do with the result. It’s about matchups as it always is. Go Johnnies!

It's like everything else in the world today. A stat, or metric has to be considered with context. UConn 2024 is beating DePaul 2024 and Georgetown 2024 3 times in a row, 10 times in a row, 100 times in a row. Why, because they are significantly better. Playing an additional time doesn't change that. But, the dynamic shifts if you take teams that are relatively even. You'd have to do a really deep dive in order to mine this information correctly.

Well, in the nfl, the stat is the same. And in the nfl, when u play a team for a 3rd time, its in the playoffs. So both teams r good. And again, the team that wins the 1st 2 wins the 3rd about 65% of the time.

Its not hard to beat a team 3 times in 1 season. Thats a fact.

I bought into the 3x thing a few years ago - think Lavin’s last year when we made the dance in the 8/9 game - hoping it would get us past Providence in the 4/5 BE game if I recall correctly. Who then went on to absolutely destroy us.
They didn’t destroy us. Didn’t Jakar Sampson miss a bunny that would have either tied or won the game for us??

But, even this has to be examined further. You will have home field advantage. How many times is it a 9-7 #6 seed playing at a 13-3 #1 seed. Is there a fundamental reason why one team won both games that really can't be overcome or was it chance i.e. both games down to the wire where it could have gone either way. Most times in sports things are not random. But, sometimes it is. That is all I'm saying.
