Yankees 2024 Season

its a lot to give up for a one year rental.
but yankee sticks are collectively terrible.
This does seem like a lot for a one year rental. I am not a Yanks fan but wasn't King one of their best pitchers last year? I thought the trade to mimic for Soto was the Betts trade and the most they gave up was Verdugo who I don't think was in the Majors when the trade was made.

The big prospect the Dodgers gave them in that was Jeter Downs, who flamed out in Boston's system.

Something to think about. If the Yankees do not go to the World Series do the Yankees peruse Soto long term.

The team will be vastly different in 2025. Gleyber and Verdugo will be free agents. Will the team pick up Rizzo contract.
Would the team be better off using the Soto money to bring in three free agents to replace 3 positions?

im sure there are other ideas on this.

You don't give up the package they did, to not pursue Soto long-term.

I expect him to go FA, and I expect the Yankees to be firmly in the mix for him.

With a few exceptions (Robinson Cano being one), the Yankees usually retain the free agents that they want to retain.

I just turned on the game and heard this.

If Cole is out for most, or all, of the season (and I'm not saying he is), then the club should reverse course, and look to deal Soto, Torres, and Holmes (all of whom will be free agents after this season, but have good value).

They might have to wait a bit on Soto (I don't know what the rules are there), but even for a 1-year rental, in 3 seperate deals (done early enough), they can replenish a lot of what they've given away in recent years.
