Transfer Portal

How do we (or you) know how things were handled?
I'll guess that most posters on this board were or are managers. They should tell you that when you take over a business, there are better ways to treat people than as if they're worthless walk-ons who should be grateful you'll even talk to them. We're talking about human beings here...not basketball cards that can just be shuffled. This team won 18 games with a shit coach. They beat some good teams...including UCONN at home. If Pitino is as good as everyone (including me) thinks he is..he could have taken the same players to the dance. You know it and I know it. The players are treated like the woman in the restaurant that coach pushed the veal picata over to have his way. I respect you, MJDinkins...but I think you have a good idea how this is being handled.

We all knew there were deficiencies from a basketball perspective last year. If there were in fact deficiencies in the classroom as reported, then it's fair to speculate that as players hit the portal it's likely for one of three reasons - Rick doesn't want them back under any circumstances, they are unwilling to commit to his expectations from them on the court and in the classroom or they got a much better NIL offer.
The academic issue did seem to be a new issue this year as the school went out of its way to publicize the team's academic achievements in CMA's first couple of years.
AJ definitely a loss but I trust that Pitino will bring in first class talent and guys like Cooley have demonstrated it's not magic to get a new group to play well together.

Future All American/NBA player? What exactly did he do this year to convince you of this? Shows the lack of quality players we've had to anoint Storr as either one of those things.
I watched this freshman play. How many criticized Anderson for not giving him more time? Where are they now?

He'll find a good coach, for sure. Storr is a future all America/NBA player. Maybe he and King didn't want to come back because they didn't like being jerked off. We all believe in our hearts that Pitino is a game changer. Personally, I think this could have been handled much better.
It has to be very had to give your all to a team like Stanley, King, and Storr seem to only to have a new coach (regardless of your opinion of him and I've made mine clear) say, I'm bringing in 6-8 new guys. It's like the people who got to keep the jobs after mass layoffs, it may be better than the immediate alternative, but no one blames you for looking at the exit.

The 18 games is nonsense based on a terrible schedule, they were 7-13 in the Big East. Yes they beat UCONN and DePaul beat Xavier, so what? That happens. That does not mean you had UCONN type talent. Norm Roberts beat NC St his first year at the Holiday Festival (with a terrible team) did that make him a great coach with a great talent. How about his 3rd year they went 7-9 in the BE (better record then Anderson this year) and they almost beat a Kevin Durant team at MSG.

They consistently underperformed and underwhelmed with good talent or not. Cherry picking a handful of games to prove he had great talent that just needed better coaching is nonsense. He is a decent coach who never put together a cohesive roster and was a bad fit at SJU.

New coaches wanting a roster comprised of their own players is nothing new in college sports. There is no loyalty in this business. Players that get treated right by a coach still transfer out all the time. If a coach inherits a roster of players he doesn't want his job is to get rid of them. Everybody who transfers out of here will land on their feet.

This could also be related to NIL, particularly with Storr. Maybe Storr (and the others) wanted a fresh start. SJUgrad13 mentioned this was Storr's choice to leave (assuming SJUgrad has a source on this situation), so why rush to conclusions....

Frankly, I'll wait till the smoke clears before gnashing of teeth.

Yeah but you’re forgetting that Pitino invited Storr to come back soon after he took the job. It’s Storr that decided to move on. You’re fabricating some wild assumptions as to why after this past weekend he chose to move on without knowing anything about what happened. Doesn’t make any sense. The only fact we know is that Rick P invited him back and he declined.

Tell me about it.
The fact that you spent years and years complaining about SJU not being relevant in college basketball and sucking and then they literally hired one of the greatest coaches of the last generation who has won BIG at every CBB stop since 1985 and yet you are still complaining specifically over him overhauling a roster that failed to make a lousy NIT the last 2 years let alone 1 backdoor NCAA appearance in 8 years tells me one thing.

You are a waste of time and breathe.

You’re going to highlight 18 wins when only 7 of them were in the Big East? And most were against cupcakes in the early OOC schedule?
Look, I get you don’t like Pitino. But come on. To brag about 18 wins? 🤦‍♂️

Somehow you got your wires crossed. I said Anderson was a shit coach. You say he was decent. My point was Pitino probably would have taken us to the NCAA's with the same roster. My point is there was no need to get rid of the players...just the coach.
