Zags: Welcome Aboard Slice

Do you think there is any chance that Briscoe decommits?

No, his recruitment was not tied to Slice. In addition, he would have to ask to be released from his LOI since he signed one and Kentucky would have to release him.

Why do you say it wasn't tied to slice? Slice was his lead recruiter.

Have to say, I really don't get this idea that these kids are are attached to the "main" recruiter. These dudes sell the program they work for.

I'm getting this feeling that hugev things are about to happen at SJU, yes even bigger then when Carnesecca was here. Damn I can't wait

I could not agree more Oldschool
Soon after Chris' hiring some of us (I was in the group) were so silly, happy, exuberant and already dreaming of final fours ( plural

Others wisely said " slow down Cowboys"

But isn't it very difficult now not to he highly optimistic???
Louie of course gave us a heyday
God bless him
And Chris could surpass that
As we enter
A brave new red storm world
Thanks!

Fantastic news.

As disheartening the Obekpa suspension was and the Tourney loss was, the last two weeks have been awesome and we are really on the path to something special here. I haven't had this feeling since '99. It's great.

I like and agree fully with this quote from a gtown fan on their board re Slice hire

"Really big get for them. Not just because the guy is a great recruiter of the NYC area (even though that's probably the biggest reason) but also because SJU just pulled a highly paid and highly regarded assistant from the most dominant program in the country over the last several years. Great for perception, makes a statement that St. John's is a force to be reckoned with and can hang with the big boys."

One man to be thanked is SJU president Bobby Gempesaw. Instead of going the money saving route as some feared, he has OKd spending that may be in the ballpark of the prior staff. For a man born in the Philippines, he seems to have more of an understanding of the importance of the basketball program to the university than the prior president.

Slice bigger than the Pope?

Depends upon which pope you're thinking of
:silly:

Just an snide reference to the post by a Kentucky fan during the Briscoe recruiting process that "the Pope wouldn't pick St. John's over Kentucky."

Simply, I'm only asking this because of your avatar, but are you unhappy with the mullin hire?

I actually put it up the day Lavin was let go. I was disappointed. I am actually very happy with the Mullin hire, both in who was selected and how quickly it was done. I think everything went smoothly and I look forward to exciting days ahead. I will change it when I figure out what the new avatar should be. I was gonna put up a pic of my son, taken with Chris, but it kept coming up sideways and I gave up.

Fantastic news. I can't remember this level of excitement about our program in 30 years.

Have to keep expectations realistic, but its should be a fun few years ahead around here.

I think it is symbolic that as I was reading this thread about Slice's hire, I jumped off the couch from a 3.5 earthquake here in LA. There is major moving and shaking going on with SJU hoops and I could not be happier!

Coach Mullin first hired Matt A then the two of them seemed to be all over, talking to people, checking out recruits, getting a couple of commitments. Now he is finalizing a contract with a superb recruiter and long time friend. and will be adding brother Terrance in some capacity, while still looking to complete his staff with one more assistant. This is what I call building a program foundation. It's a great time to be a Redmen fan. We are becoming the talk of New York.

It's what I call being relevant gain.
